Welcome to Pick-A-Winner (PAW), the Predictions game!


Playing is simple: over the course of the tournament choose any 13 matches in the Main Draw and post who you think will win them. The scoring points besides each fixture represent the points you score if the corresponding player wins. Whoever has the most points at the end of the tournament is the winner.If this is the first time you’re playing or you’re not familiar with the rules of the game, here’s a link to the Official PAW Rules.

Commitments
In order to play in this tournament you should have posted a commitment to play in the Mai commitment thread. The deadline for commitments is 3rd Mai 2009

Wildcards
If you haven't posted a commitment until midnight (local time) on Mai 3rd, you can ask for a wildcard. The number of WCs is limited to 5 per tournament. Any pick posted without having a WC or early commitment is not valid.
=> NEW From 2008 onwards we’ve limited the number of WCs for each player to 3 a year. You can keep track of how many you have used here.

Posting your picks
Please post your picks in the following format:
PAW# Player A (winner) over/def Player B (loser)
# number of pick in ascending order (1 to 13)
Please use the official last names of players, not nicknames.
A valid pick must include the names of both players (winner first) and the word over or def.

Before posting picks, check that the matches haven't started yet. A pick that is posted after a match started is invalid and may be replaced. In case a match doesn't take place due to withdrawal or change of the draw, the pick is invalid and may be replaced. If a player retires or defaulted after the match has started (even if one point was played), the pick is valid.

Changing your picks
If you want to amend a previous pick (cancel or change), quote the original post and add a new message. Don't edit the post and never delete it!
A moderator will scan this thread every day to track on deleted/edited posts. If you caught cheating, you will be automatically disqualified from this tournament. In certain case, you might be banned from playing temporarily or permanently. Please play fairly, everybody!

Don't forget, you're limited to 13 picks throughout the whole tournament.

TUESDAY (5th May)

Tuesday finally saw first MD match completed (good foundation to start the tournament for 19 players who have picked Christoph Rochus). Overall it wasn't very impressive day with most favourites winning therefore no one stood out from the crowd.
I'm for one i'm all over the moon when i saw Marcos Daniel (what a cutie, one of Tina's favourite) beating druggie Canas. Sadly no one picked Daniel to win this match, 17 players ended with big fat 'druggie zero'!
Joke (and hormons aside): it was pretty awesome day for robuś who ended the day with 3-0 scoring points with Troicki, Tipsarevic and Rochus.
What can i see at the end of the day: Belgrade site sucks, Serbian wild-carded players could have been picked more smartly (names like Pashanski, Bozoljac or even Vemic come to my mind), scoreboard kept showing results from previous day, Hrbaty looks worse than Stepanek (seriously) and when was the last time Pole won MD match (albeit against player ranked 1417th in the world)!

WEDNESDAY (6TH MAY)

Major defining moment on day came when Andreev (looooser) retired in the first set against Kubot giving 4 players juicy 21 points! Beneficiaries like nemanjam and propaganda rise up from oblivion to occupy top of the ranking. Shouldn't have praised robuś yesterday as he went from being favourite to win to plain average.

And how mighty have fallen: Chris 84 won biggy last week in Rome, now practically sitting last in the rankings (as he did in last tournament i have run ... free tip for you: don't play tournamnets run by me)!Conclusion: Belgrade scoreboard improved, there is still one Pole in the main draw, can cutie patootie Marcos Daniel win another round, will Anna-Lena Grönefeld fit in my TV screen this time (oh, science-fiction)

THURSDAY (7TH MAY)

Thursday brought little change in the rankings; only one making a step forward was robuś who picked Karlovic over Dabul. You may think this move was insignificant but it may do wonders at the end of the tournament! Still no treat for leading Balkan duo: propaganda and nemanjam continue to head the ranking. Bookmakers would favour propaganda!
PAW aside, i'm sooooo happy Marcos Daniel won against Ljubicic! Didn't see it coming, honestly. Do you best today, sweety!
Conclusion: Scoreboard worked perfectly today, no twitches. Are EnriqueIG8 and Kissing_Rain one person using two accounts (see page 4)? If we have HotSpot_vol2 is there HotSpot_vol1 out there as well? So many questions to be asked so little time to do it!

FRIDAY (8TH MAY)

After nemanjam failed to deliver goods on Friday the winner could well be decided between two Bolgarian players: propaganda and Mincheff. Mincheff run to the top remainds me of 800m runner Yuri Borzakovsky who tends to be running at back most of the time only to come in front in last 200 metres! Copycat! Dangerous move but it bring Yuri Olympic gold medal in Athens!

Who would have ever guessed it that qualifier from Poland by the name of Lukasz Kubot would be playing in the final of ATP tournament? I wasn't, that's for sure! So which player did profit the most? Hellcat, earning 57 points by picking Kubot three times during the tournament (almost 62% of all his points). Still, not enough to trouble propaganda at the top of the rankings (his Kubot share at 40%). With cleaver picks and with some measurement of luck, propaganda has gone where no man has gone before in Belgrade- to PAW titel! You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out what you need to do, propaganda and you are a proud owner of PAW Belgrade titel. Yeah, it's one of those tournaments where top seed is so far ahead in the rankings (in points) that's impossible to make any good points. Another one coming from nowhere to clinch 3rd spot after semifinals is qczi (Kubot share:47%).

No suprises on last day: Djokovic beat qualie suprise Kubot and propaganda has snatched the titel. Since Bolgaria hasn't got ATP tournament it must feel like winning a home tournament! поздравление!
