Here you go folks. IF anyone will post here at all besides me.

Anyway, Rafa is playing in Doha, in Qatar ExxonMobil Open from Jan 5th to Jan 10th starting vs a qualifier.
He is playing also doubles with Juan Monaco to get some match practice.

I'll be here No worries!

I don't have any expectations about Doha. I just want to avoid loss to Djokovic. Let's just get some matches under belt and fly to Melbourne.

First match tomorrow!

Vamos Rafa!

Hi Shawshank, how're you doing?

I SOOOO hope Rafa will finally get his 2nd AO, that's all I want. Last year's final drama was horrible.

Rafa & Juan Monaco beat Simone Bolelli/Leonardo Mayer 6-3 6-3.
And Rafa will play Michael Berrer in singles.

So much for the Doha tournament then. Rafa lost to Michael Berrer 6-1 3-6 4-6.
Should I just give up on the AO?

Question Re: 2015 Tournaments Thread

Hello everyone!

Top players usually don't enter any tournaments a week before a slam, but do you think it's possible that Rafa asks for a WC to enter Sydney or Hobart last minute?
If he needs match play, this could be beneficial just this once.

Otherwise, we can hope that he wins Qatar Open in doubles

Hehe doubles.
Naaah, I doubt he'll play a week before AO. He's done anyway, better start thinking about retirement, those last losses are embarrassing.

Well, today's loss made me finally post here after long time lurking, so I know how you feel
I was sooo looking forward to watching him play before the AO. Now I can only hope that Eurosport will show their next doubles match or else it's almost 2 weeks with no Rafa again.

Hi Felula!
At least someone's posting here.
I shouldn't have any expectations for the AO, it may be over after one match too.

Rafa and Juan Monaco will play Benjamin Becker/Artem Sitak on Court 1 tomorrow so they won't show it on Eurosport. I need to check if there will be streams.

I have absolutely no expectations regarding AO after today...
As someone mentioned in the other thread - apart from RG 2014 where Rafa won with his confidence in this tournament, it is not the same Nadal since the begining of the 2014. Many many strange losses. It is going in a very bad direction

IMO he should be playing Sydney after this loss. He needs match practice. I know it's the week before AO so you don't want to burn out but at least get a few matches in, and you can always tank/retire from a match if you feel like you've done enough.

He's going to come into the AO severely underdone.

Maybe he could play Kooyong?

I dunno about the contracts and it's not an official tournament but he could play some matches in Kooyong. We'll see.

Drama queen.
Stop it with the excessive negativity, please

To be honest, my own expectations are not that high either but it's early in 2015 after his troubled 2014 so it's a bit too soon to be saying in which directions it's going to go.

Somebody has to play the drama queen here.

Actually I just hope he'll improve and stay injury-free.

I forgot he's scheduled to play this special Summer Set with Verdasco in Melbourne on the 14th of January:
http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows...SUMM15&view=ao

He's not going to cancel that, so Sydney and Hobart are not possible.
Kooyong would be a great idea! But I'm not sure he can participate in that if he has the 14th January booked.

So the positive take aways are:
- he is going to play at least an exhibition match before the AO
- being the Friend of AO, sponsored by KIA and all that, I think he will participate in the AO even if his chances for the title are slim.

What Rafa himself said:

Quote:
Stopped Short: Nadal Reflects On Comeback Challenge
Doha, Qatar

by ATP Staff
06.01.2015

After his premature departure from the 2014 season, Tuesday’s result at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open wasn’t the start Rafael Nadal had planned for the new year. But the World No. 3 maintains despite nerves in his first match since October, his hunger and motivation to win have not wavered.

The No. 2 seed fell at the hands of qualifier Michael Berrer, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 56 minutes. It was the Spaniard’s first match since ending his season at the Swiss Indoors Basel with a quarter-final loss (l. to Borna Coric) before undergoing appendix surgery on 3 November.

“He played well,” said Nadal, crediting his opponent. “I was playing with more nerves than usual. I knew that winning [a] couple of matches here will help me, so that makes me play a little bit more under more tension.”

The defending champion in Doha had never lost before the quarter-final in seven appearances, but Nadal said the nature of it being his first tournament back after an extended absence played a large role in his defeat.

“These things happen after [a] long time without being on the road, being on rhythm, being in competition,” said Nadal. “So I think I played a great first set [with] a lot of winners with my forehand [and] no mistakes.”

Last year, his win in Doha propelled him to the finals in Melbourne, but the 28 year old said his comeback from injury this year is “a little bit different” and will “take time.”

“There is risk,” said Nadal. “You can see all the comebacks from a lot of players when they were injured from long time. The comebacks are tough; I'm not an exception.

“At the end, that's the sport. I'm going to work hard to try to make it less tough as possible, but my motivation and my hunger to keep doing the things well [are] still the same. I am sure that I’m going to come back to my best. I hope to be soon.”
