Nicolás Massú gana terreno para ser segundo singlista ante Croacia

Confiados en poder lograr un triunfo sobre Croacia iniciaron ayer su viaje a París el equipo chilenos de Copa Davis, que el 6, 7 y 8 enfrentarán a los europeos por el torneo internacional.

En su partida, el capitán Hans Gildemeister aseguró que es Nicolás Massú el que tiene la primera opción de ser el segundo singlista para el cotejo, pese a que este año aún no logra ganar.

"Paul lo hice jugar con Canadá, pero lo malo fue que no rindió y ante Australia tampoco. (...) 'Nico' tiene opción porque lo respetan en el circuito, pero no hay que apurarse", especificó Gildemeister.

Por su parte, el viñamarino aseguró que su mal momento queda en un segundo plano, considerando que ha logrado buen rendimiento en pleitos coperos.

"Siempre pienso en ganar. No tengo miedo a nada, pero cuando entro a la cancha no pienso en lo que pasó o en los partidos que he perdido, sino en el rival que tengo al frente", especificó.

El "Vampiro" le cedió la presión a los croatas, y opinó que tanto Mario Ancic como Marin Cilic están pasando por un gran momento.

"Ellos están pasando por un gran momento, ellos son los que están presionados. Ellos tienen un porcentaje más alto de ganar, pero en el deporte antes de entrar a la cancha no se puede entrar derrotado", sentenció.

Ayer viajaron rumbo a la capital francesa Massú, Gildemeister y Guillermo Hormazábal, mientras que durante la semana se sumarán Hans Podlipnik, Fernando González y Paul Capdeville.

Chile comienza a entrenar hoy en París

Ayer comenzó formalmente la concentración del equipo chileno de Copa Davis para la serie ante Croacia, que se jugará la próxima semana en Porec. Nicolás Massú (82º), Guillermo Hormazábal (327º), Hans Gildemeister, el PF Ricardo Luna y José Hinzpeter, presidente de la federación, arribaron ayer a Francia, donde se les unió Horacio Mata -ayudante del capitán- y Hans Podlipnik (442º), quien participó en las clasificaciones de un challenger en Marruecos.

Las prácticas, que serán en doble jornada, comenzarán hoy en las pistas cubiertas de Roland Garros, en las que podrían compartir entrenamientos con el equipo francés de la Davis. En las próximas horas debiera llegar también Paul Capdeville (94º), luego de su eliminación en la primera vuelta del ATP de Delray Beach.

"Quedamos bien instalados, sin ningún problema, aunque algo cansados con el viaje. Esperamos sacarles el máximo de provecho a estos tres días de estadía en Francia. Por lo mismo, los muchachos entrenarán en la mañana, almorzarán en el mismo complejo y volverán a practicar por la tarde", explicó Hinzpeter.

El último en integrarse al equipo será Fernando González (18º). "Mano de Piedra", al igual que el encordador Exequiel Carvajal, viajará directamente el sábado a Croacia, el mismo día en el que volará el resto del equipo desde París.

Equipo de Copa Davis entrenó a doble turno en París pensando en Croacia

Una excelente recepción ha tenido el equipo chileno de Copa Davis en París, Francia, donde hoy partieron con las prácticas en dos canchas indoor que posee el complejo deportivo Roland Garros, con miras al duelo del próximo fin de semana ante Croacia.

Los nacionales partieron el lunes rumbo a Europa y, tras instalarse ayer en la capital francesa hoy tuvieron su primera práctica a doble turno, dirigida por el capitán del combinado, Hans Gildemeister.

Así, Nicolás Massú y Hans Podlipnik comenzaron el proceso de adaptación a la cancha rápida que los croatas dispondrán para el choque por la primera ronda del Grupo Mundial (entre el 6 y el 8 de marzo), puesto que Paul Capdeville debería llegar entre hoy y mañana, y Fernando González viajará el viernes directamente a Croacia.

"Se entrenó a doble jornada con total normalidad. Veo a Nicolás muy metido con esta Copa Davis, está muy mentalizado en la victoria y eso se le nota en las prácticas", relató a latercera.com desde Francia el presidente de la Federación de Tenis, José Hinzpeter.

El timonel del deporte blanco nacional destacó la buena recepción que han tenido en el país galo, "sobre todo la Embajada de Chile, que nos habilitó una van para entrenarnos. Roland Garros también, nos facilitaron dos canchas de primer nivel, gimnasio y todas las atenciones del caso".

"Esta preparación es la mejor que podemos tener, puesto que las canchas son muy similares a las que nos tendrán en Porec (Croacia). Es de esperar que sea igual de rápida, pero nuestros jugadores están acostumbrados, y sólo les falta reencontrarse con la superficie", explicó Hinzpeter.

Para mañana, el equipo chileno volverá entrenar a doble jornada, a la espera de la incorporación de Paul Capdeville, quien podría llegar mañana, aunque algunos problemas en Estados Unidos (país donde reside desde el año pasado), lo han retrasado más de lo presupuestado.

La comitiva nacional permanecerá hasta el sábado en París, para luego trasladarse a Zagreb, lugar donde vía terrestre viajarán a Porec, ciudad donde se medirán al equipo croata por la primera ronda del Grupo Mundial de Copa Davis.

Kid - you knew at one point that Paul was living in the U.S. - I posted that - he's in Miami. I said then too that I didn't understand why Nico couldn't do something bold like that. Doesn't matter at this point anymore.
