Me too. I try for 3 years!!!! But it's difficult to practice outside the classes.

For you, european guys, it's so easy to learn foreign languages. So many countries and languages in a couple of hours of distance.

Indeed, we are at an advantage, but most of us don't utilise it.

I definitely won't rule out coming back to learning the language. I never know where life might take me next.

Peeked into that thread once, but I don't have time for yet another chat thread. One thing I noticed; they sure don't like Novak.
lol. That's really cool you can speak it. Have you ever been there before?

I agree, really frustrating

I speak English and some Italian (learning Italian yet), but here is a bit hard to practice.

Well, I haven't been out of the country for a decade, so I'm pretty much in the same boat, but I can't see that it's made much difference.

It helped me along a lot, and found myself a much better understanding of foreign languages than I ever hoped for. I am perfectly capable of reading Spanish, Italian, well, all of Romanic languages thanks to my struggles of having to learn Latin at the age of 16, decades ago.

Obviously aside from the linguistic uses (with me being hopeless at languages), every so often, I use the knowledge that I picked up from learning Latin in just about anything. It was a pleasant experience doing it, not a hard laborious subject like some are. Just wish I could have done better in it!

German is a great language, and yes it's tricky, but I'd like to offer you some inspiration:

Der Blaue Engel - a classic of German cinema.

No time to watch the entire thing, well, just listen to this:

"...denn dann is meine Welt, und sonst gar nichts!..."

Haha, thank you. I will watch them tomorrow when my mind is clear of worry.

I do try and listen to foreign music and watch foreign films to improve, but I already can tell that to learn a language, I'd have to be completely dedicated, and I don't have the time, considering I'm studying a lot of other time-consuming things right now.

Very understandable!
I've been watching a lot of fantastic Danish crime series lately, and I don't understand a word of which is spoken there (though I try) - the best of them being Forbrydelsen, aka The Killing.
Even if I don't understand any word of it, it's fantastic!

I've heard a lot of good things about it, some people I know were absolutely raving about it, not least my dad, who loved it. It's apparently far better than the American version, which is always likely (The Office, anyone?).

Panthera, how are you learning? In school? Classes?

also what did you think of Roger's Portuguese accent in the recent gillete vid, was it any good?
