^ I agree, it sounds like he's trying to find his voice as a politician, or maybe just to express his public identity, and it's not quite gelled yet.

Thanks for everyone posting the news (and, of course, pictures), it's been really interesting (lol) reading them since I haven't been here for a while. Still missing Marat!

Default Re: News & Articles Part 3 - The Return of the Yeti

Marat writes about Davis Cup in his latest Championat column.

Quote:

"Tennis in the Czech Republic - a culture with a long history"

In his column, Marat Safin, summed up the final Davis Cup match between Czech Republic and Spain.

The result of the final was largely dependent on Rafael Nadal. If Rafa had decided to play in Prague, it would have been very difficult for the Czechs. While on the other hand, it is unclear what form now resides Nadal from Wimbledon because he did not compete. However, in any case he would have very much helped his team. The second number is the Spanish national team - David Ferrer . The level and class of games, experience, skill - all to count on two points. So it is, by the way, in the end it turned out. He did his job perfectly well.

It was a very important doubles match. Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez - very good greenhouses, they recently won the championship final in London. However, a point to bring his team they have failed. In my opinion, Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek defeated naturally. They have more experience so important matches than the Spaniards. Besides, the two of them play a couple of very good and this season have won all their matches, plus played together in the Olympics.

Became the final decisive fifth game, which met Stepanek and Nicolas Almagro. Although the Spaniard is now much higher in rank than a Czech experience he obviously smaller. He has not participated in such an important and crucial matches. Nicholas nervous, and can be understood. By itself it is a good tennis player, he has a good game, an interesting tennis, but to cope with the nerves could not, and that is quite obvious.

In fact, this is a very important point. Naturally, in this situation, everyone very nervous and worried, but not everyone can handle it. It's all relative. You have to adjust yourself so that you can play freely. This pressure must send you in the right direction. Need all this great energy return not in a negative direction, and positive. There is a man who would not be nervous in that situation. Will survive and Federer and Nadal and Moya, and Agassi, and all the rest. This is normal, there are no iron men. However, benefit only those who can bear to play, to convince your mind to overcome fear. It is this inner strength and defines a class player - one is in the top five, one lives at the end of ten, and for someone to hit the ceiling is in the top 20. This point is key to any athlete's career - as you show themselves in the most difficult, the key episode in which the tension on the limit.

Radek Stepanek was able to overcome himself. By the way, I've played against him a few times. I've known him for a long time, he was born in 1978, he's become quite a guy. Good specialist, seen a lot over his career. He deserved this success, for which I congratulate him! Although, of course, at his age it's hard to deal with a player like Ferrer, so he lost on the first day. Frankly, I think if we'd Almagro they played first approach, it would have lost him too. But here, as I said, the key role played by the nerves.

This year, the Czechs won every major team tournaments - Hopman Cup, Fed Cup and Davis Cup. A surprising result. In fact, in the Czech Republic has always been a very good tennis school, with a lot of outstanding players. I can remember: Ivan Lendl, Tomas Smid, Jan Kodesh, Petr Korda, Hana Mandlikova, Martina Navratilova and Helena Sukova, Martin Damm, Daniel Vacek, Kveta Peschke, Jana Novotna and others. They have a really good school, they live tennis. This sport is for them - a kind of culture, and with a long history. We, too, have competent professionals, its rich school history, though somewhat shorter, but it all depends on the tennis culture. In the Czech Republic there is a club system, all systematized. In every town there is a club in which the locals go, play, communicate with each other. This is part of their way of life, they love tennis. Tennis world - it is quite a serious community. In our country, too, had some very good clubs, but eventually everything is destroyed, people fled in different directions. Create an atmosphere artificially pretty hard.

I personally know a very good school in Prague and Prostějov. However, this does not mean that now all have to pack up and run there, there to train. No, not at all. It is understood that more than the Czechs themselves out no one really came out. They focus on their own, developing their school. And this is probably correct. Unfortunately, we have a different situation. Courts are almost there, and if there are, they are privately owned. We all go into business, rather than raising children and growing sport. This is a complex topic that is better to talk separately. I am sure that we will come to a correct understanding, but when it does, hard to say.

In the next Davis Cup we will not be in the World Group. Hopefully, in 2014, that will change. We will prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. We have completely changed the composition - leaves the older generation, must come to replace the young. On the general joy, the first hundred rankings were Evgeny Donskoy and Andrey Kuznetsov. Both guys are prospects. But actually, now we need to think not only about the Davis Cup, how to raise those children who can show something in two, three, four, or even five years. We don't just want to be in the World Group, we want to win trophies. Therefore it is necessary to engage in nurturing young tennis professionally, systematically and thoroughly. I'm not sure that alone we will have the same guys like Zhenya Kafelnikov or Kolya Davydenko. This is a rare phenomenon, and just so people do not become stars. Need this seriously, this requires a systematic approach. You can't play a tournament, then month to rest and train, then a tournament and then a month to spend again goof. In all need a professional approach. Children need to explain it, because they do not understand it, and parents often make mistakes. They think they are better versed than others in all matters. It's good they're supportive of their children, but sometimes it's better to turn to a professional. They should seek advice and ask the opinion of professionals, people who themselves played and played well. It is necessary to do. As in any field, you need to be a professional to succeed. Tennis is no exception. It is a pity that many do not understand.

Photo: Portal ProGorodNN.ru

November 28, the eve of the International Day of Disabled Persons, in Nizhny Novgorod will be an action in support of people with disabilities "Accessible Nizhny."

Handicapped-activists, including 11-year-old Katya Zhirnova, known for her paintings of angels, as well as journalists and Nizhny famous tennis player, member of the State Duma Marat Safin will make a walk through the city center in wheelchairs, to see how accessible the city is to people with disabilities opportunities.

"In today's megacities, as is Nizhny Novgorod, there are all the comforts of life, but there is a category of people for whom those services are not available - it is disabled. To them, the quality of their lives, their socialization is the subject of our action. On the eve of the International Day of Disabled Persons, we want to draw attention of the public and the authorities to ensure that wheelchair users are locked up at home, because the city does not create conditions for their movement "- say the organizers.

Similar events regularly take place in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Public figures, famous artists, athletes and journalists sit in wheelchairs and with disabilities move around the city to check whether a disabled person to get yourself to the store or clinic, use an ATM, go down the street or in the subway.

Account is not fake. The question is who has been writing lately under his account.

inez, I'm beginning to think you're right! Today he declined ever to tweet in Spanish, which we all know he speaks fluently (better by far than English), and the tweet itself was written in a nonsensical mishmash of basic Spanish and dodgy French (should've been imperative form "apprenez" instead of infinitive). Via Twitter.

Quote:

Sólo Inglés y ruso. suficiente. apprendre les langues!
This is for me the strongest indication yet of a "Wizard of Oz" account. If this is the case, then Marat surely needs to know about this person having a go at the disabled (see below), the very people whose interests he's meant to be championing. For a man in his position to say such a thing, I had hardly thought it possible.

03 December 2012

Quote:

But other imprtnt thing is - to make disabled starve 2 work. We can't force them to work! Who wants to work - finds ways to do it, like that girl, Katherine, who makes nice paintings. But I'm sure there are thousands of disabled, who sits at home and just complain.

his party colleague has said recently that govt shouldn't waste money on cancer patients who will die anyway - makes more sense to use money to treat curable deseases.

Ah, ok! I take it this stuff includes making crass and insensitive remarks about some of the most vulnerable members of society. In that case, these aren't men we're talking about, but "marginal souls ... children with jobs" (thus spoke Judge Judy). Or more aptly "bullies with jobs", shooting at easy targets. If the best that ER can do for cancer patients and the disabled is to kick them when they're down, Marat might want to reconsider the state of his soul (if not his actual career direction). I'm pretty sure if a ruling party MP here in the UK made that kind of remark (about wasting money on cancer patients), they'd get the sack.

Back to Marat's twitter, I still don't see why he'd have someone tweet on his behalf. It doesn't make any rational sense to me. Actually, now I think about it, I can see why he'd only want to tweet in Russian and English, the latter presumably because it's more of a lingua franca in the Twittersphere than Spanish. Tweeting every time in triplicate would be far too time-consuming.

Default Re: News & Articles Part 3 - The Return of the Yeti

My opinion is that since "Marat" came back to twitter after a 2-3 month 'hiatus" in early October, it is no longer him personally tweeting but some ER lackey; Apart from the largely unrecognisably maratish dialogues, prior to october when he WAS tweeting himself - he had no problem tweeting in russian, english or spanish - he replied to tweeters in the same language they tweeted him and when he just made a tweet he always tweeted in Russian and THEN after a few requests he also started to duplicate his "announcement" like tweets (ie the next week I am going to regional week in ...etc)in English - the 'conversations' he has been engaging in with the known trolls on twitter are laughable in their banality - and as for his comments - frankly - if that IS him tweeting, I can no longer consider him worthy of my attention.

If I wanted to propose a 'conspiracy' theory - given the ruling party's attitude to 'free speech' and social media in particular, they may well have issued a decree that any ER associate or member of the Duma had to hand over their twitter accounts to their lackeys - do you really think that Medvedev and Putin actually compose and post their own tweets? Marat maybe insignificant in comparison to them - but for sure the party cannot be blind to the fact that he has an international following (dwindling, it would seem) and may be sensitive to that fact ....while he was never very active on facebook, pretty much the only things appearing on his wall these days are automatically generated horoscopes, and he appears to have gone 'dark' on his VKontact and Odnoklassniki pages too - you would have thought he was too busy for social media these days.....anyhow...just sayin!
