He probably makes himself believe that what he's being told to do is what he wants to do. I guess that's how it works for many of those so called decent people who at first think think that their good intentions justify the means and then after some time they totally lose perspective.

As part of the Olympic Day celebrations in Russia today, Marat apparently took part in a football match between champions of summer and winter sports. Among the other participants was Alexander Zhukov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and Executive Director of the Russian Olympic Committee.

Marat was in Kiev to take part in a "parliamentary tennis" tournament on 07 July. Via cskp.info.

On July 7 a friendly tennis tournament between Ukrainian and Russian politicians was held in Kiev. Co-organizer of an international sports competition was made by Center for Social and Conservative Policy (Ukraine).

Among the participants from the Russian side - State Duma deputy, first deputy chairman of the All-Russian public organization of veterans of the "Fighting brotherhood" Dmitry Sablin, Vice-Speaker of Russian State Duma Sergei Neverov, and Russian deputies Marat Safin, Daniel Volkov, Georgny Karlov, Sergei Krivonosov, Valery Solokha, Alexander Bryksin.

The Ukrainian side was represented by deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, Paul Kostenko, Andrew Kozhemyakin and others.

In 2000 Marat Safin defended the honor of the Russian flag at the Olympic Games in Sydney, but failed to win a medal. In an interview with "Trud", Marat, now vice-president of the Russian Tennis Federation, spoke about the chances of our tennis players in the upcoming Olympic Games in London, and also about his life after his retirement from tennis.


- Who's the favorite at the Games in the tennis tournament?

- Unlikely to be any surprises in store here. The contender is to be found among the Big Four: Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray. These tennis players should make up the semi-final pairs. They are so set apart in class, that each of the four is able to beat the rest of world's tennis players on hard, on clay, even on grass. And for women the situation is less predictable. Maria Sharapova, in the space of a month, on the same surface, can play at first very well, then poorly. Or in reverse order.

- Have the names already been approved of those who will make up the Russian team on the London courts?

- All of our strongest tennis players and tennis players are already known, but the team combinations in doubles and mixed doubles have yet to be decided for London.

- If Dinara played a full season, she would surely have received an invitation to the team. Will your sister be back in tennis?

- I don't think so. Although I've already said, women are less predictable than men. Including in tennis.

- From early childhood I loved two sports most of all - football and tennis. My parents gave me to tennis. Maybe it makes sense to say my life is undeveloped.

- But is there something about tennis that's better than football?

- The fact that the responsibility of no one else skinesh: most have to fight for the victory and fully responsible for the defeat. But it's easier in a football team.

- And among the tennis players, who is better at football?

- All the top Russian tennis players have some football experience, there was never a "no legs" in our team. But better than all of us is Igor Andreev. He's just a football genius.
