Josef Strauss - OSTERREICHISCHER KRONPRINZEN MARSCH OPUS 59

Wasn't Berlioz right when he said "Vienna without the Strauss is like Austria without the Danube"?

Rossini - Sonata per arpa

Johann Strauss I - Radetzky Marsch

Love it when von Karajan is conducting both the Orchestra and the audience. AND smiling !

I've edited my post above for that was the Berlioz quote, I think: "Vienna without the Strauss is like Austria without the Danube", not "... with the Danube".

Does anyone have the Wilhelm-Tell Galoppe by Johann Strauss I? I think it's a cover Rossini's masterpiece. I once heard it on Last.fm but can't find it on YT.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Mahler is excellent, but I am not his "biggest" fan.
He is god for depressive moments, moments where you want to kill all women in the world (his wife cheated on him inumerous times).
He was the right guy in the wrong era.

He said that himself indeed, "meine Zeit wird noch kommen".

I recognise his merit and talent but I have never grown fond of his music, no matter what my mood is.

I do however recommend his correspondence with Richard Strauss, it's a fascinating read.

Saulo, you brought to the table the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
it's my turn now:
Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philarmoniker.

it was used in Visconti's film "Death in Venice". it is believed that Thomas Mann was inspired to write "Death in Venice" after seeing Gustav Mahler breaking down in tears on the train departing Venice. Dirg Bogarde's one of his most elegiac performances. all of them, Mann, Mahler, Visconti, Bogarde and von Karajan, manage to be sorrowful, yet seductive at the same time.

José, does it surprise you that i'm a Maya Plisetskaya's fan (Plisetskaya's fan, not Maurice Ravel's fan ) and an Arnold Schoenberg's fan at the same time?

Maya Plisetskaya in Maurice Béjart's Bolero (guess not that surprising i chose Béjart over Ravel )
