The old man has gone out to some decent players in his last 2 tournaments, Chela and Robredo and got a couple of useful wins in Brazil over Lapentti and Devilder. He took the doubles title in BA so should coime with a bit of confidence. Should be the better player here.

Gulbis over Baghdatis
Gulbis seems to be a very reliable player in that he always wins his first round matches and always loses in the 2nd round. 10 tournaments in a row now. He's had some tough draws though in fairness. He'll be happy to be back outdoors as he struggled with the low bouncing conditions in Memphis. The main reason for the bet though is Baggy's result against Querrey. It suggests he's still in a big slump. Gulbis has some similarities to Sam with heavy groundstrokes off both wings and a big serve. The slight drift concerns me a bit but I'll play it anyway. He'll probably be a dog by the time the match starts.
