Today David played without pressure, huge contrast to his matches in the AO.
Served consistently, hitting some lines.
Dictated every point from the baseline, but not closing net well after hitting the approach.
Movement looking decent, not sure if he dropped weight because he was wearing black.
Groundstrokes hit with conviction, big, deep, not slicing backhand at all or overusing dropshots.
More or less going for broke on return of serve.
Played a few poor points to get broken and became less assertive, gave Lapentti some confidence.
Played a good game to break again and served it out with ease.
To be honest I can't say much from this match. Lapentti was simply awful and made it way too easy for David. The longest rally was no more then 3-4 shots. From what I saw David still hasn't changed his indoor style, he did sneaked to the net quite a lot for a match on clay, it worked against Lapentti but I doubt it will be with the same effect against stronger opponents.
True, Lapentti didn't really test him.
But still, it was David's first match on clay this year. And I think he played well. Especially from the baseline. The forehand was quite solid today. And he also served well. I didn't think he came to the net that much.
