"I feel sorry for Gael," Nadal told reporters. "He did not play his best because of stomach problems and I was thinking more about him than myself.
"I saw him vomit when I went to the toilet after the first set. That disturbed my concentration and afterwards I made more mistakes."

http://uk.reuters.com/article/tennis...BrandChannel=0

And there are tons of idiots on French websites who don't believe Gaël was sick tonight. It's a bit crazy, but never mind, with his current results it's not hard to get over the bashing.

Merci !

Rafa's video itw on tennistv (here :http://www.tennistv.com/page/TennisT...557674,00.html)
"Today wasn't the best match because he had some problems in the stomach. It was very strange, I had a lot of mistakes, I think because I was all the time watching him."
He sounds (and looked during the match) really worried for Gaël. I find his concern very cute !

I'm very proud of Gaël tonight. To fight the way he did while being sick to the point of throwing up between the two sets is really impressive And he already has two semis in the pocket for 2009. I feel this is going to be the Monfils year Does anyone know if he has a chance to enter the top ten with those points on Monday ?

No, he needed to make it to the final to enter the top 10. He'll be #11 on Monday.
The reactions on lequipe.fr were even worse, of course, they really bashed him again over there. Even MTF admitted he was sick, the reactions on French websites are a bit surreal, as usual.

Here's the article in L'Equipe today, it just confirms what we already know:
Quote:
He already was seriously sick against Benneteau, during and even more after the match.
Gaël also explains Rafa saw him in the bathroom when he was sick. Rafa was very nice, asked how he was feeling, Gaël told him he was going to give his all. He really set back his limits during this match, but he was too weakened to achieve anything big.
Gaël's physical problems and the fact that Rafa was aware of it probably explain the chaotic match. Having breakpoints in 6 of the first 8 games seems crazy on such a fast surface. The level was far from the Nadal-Tsonga match, Gaël showed at times why he's "the Elastic Man", but there was no continuity in the game.
Rafa says it was a strange match, he means he didn't play well - or more exactly: he didn't play at all. He was thinking more of Gaël than of himself, wondering if Gaël was going to retire. It was really tough to remain focused.

He's closer than ever then I hope he'll be able to play in Marseille to gain a few more points.

So Rafa and Gaël spoke to each other during the bathroom break -I was wondering about what happened exactly. It's a very unusual situation, I can't think of anything else which would have been able to break Rafa's legendary focus. I like that he was so worried about Gaël, it just shows how great a person he is

That's cute that Rafa worried about Gael... It must have been awkward to see Gael throw up in the bathroom Wonder what they said to each other...

Gael, get better for Marseille

Paulo is a clay courter... and Gaël is much stronger than two years ago. I never understand the use of those Head to Head, I mean they really don't mean much. Tomorrow should be interesting, anyone watching ?

When it's just one match, like here, of course the h2h doesn't mean anything. But I always look it up anyway to see if it gives any clue. Match-ups are important in tennis, I do find that a meaningful piece of information.
And since I check it, I post it so the others don't need to look it up too, that's all. Just in case somebody else was wondering if they've already played before.

He was watching Gilles' match yesterday (it was the highlight of the first 2 sets when they were showing him in the stands).

I only saw the third set and they didn't show him there But I heard he had his headphones on that's Gaël for you. I wish there was any pic.

Now another player is warming up next to him but I don't think it's Paulo, he usually doesn't wear a cap.
Rasheed and Gaël are so funny, Rasheed is waving his arms in the air and Gaël is he just did a mini 360°
Sorry about the soliloquing
