Australian Open 2009
I think this is a good draw to get to the 4th round, which he hasn't done so in a long while.
[7] Roddick vs Q
Q vs Llodra
Ferrero vs Santoro
Querrey vs [32] Kohlschreiber
[21] Robredo vs Reynolds
Martin vs Troicki
Bellucci vs Lu
Gicquel vs [10] Nalbandian
[16] Soderling vs Kendrick
Benneteau vs Baghdatis
Bolelli vs Vliegen
Groth vs [23] Fish
[28] Mathieu vs Nieminen
Dent vs Q
Chardy vs Daniel
Q vs [3] Djokovic

Re: Australian Open 2009
So excited for the AO. Very good draw for David here to reach even the quarterfinals not just the 4th round. I don't want to have high hopes though!!

Yeah, it's been a while...
Fourth round does look makeable. Robredo as the first seeded player he could meet is a good one. And I'd love to see David play against Roddick.
But first up is Gicquel. I saw their only match so far, at Halle back in 2007. And it wasn't pretty. But that was more a case of David having a bad day than Gicquel being a bad match-up for him, or something.

Re: Australian Open 2009
Not a bad draw at all. He should reach R16 without any trouble (if he doesn't underestimate weaker opponents as he can do sometimes). After that Roddick, who is very much beatable at the moment. After that Djokovic whose form is very much fluctuating lately and there is no way to tell how that will turn up. Last time in Queens Novak demolished David totally. Then Federer in SF and probably Murray if he reaches final. I will concider a QF-good achievment.

Depends on which David shows up: demolition Dave or PMS Dave. Take your pick. In any case, be afraid...be VERY afraid.

That seemed to be during a time when he had a habit of losing first rounds in small ATP events. I didn't watch that particular match though.
Gicquel isn't as much of a cakewalk as some other players you can get in opening rounds of Grand Slams but I would like to think that with some wins this week, he won't need to ease into the tournament as much. From an entertainment point of view, it is good that he didn't draw someone like Marcos Daniel or Robert Smeets.
I noticed that this week Robredo got thrashed by Ancic, something like 6-1 6-2, which I remember because I found that to be surprising.

Re: Australian Open 2009
It's a decent draw but at the slams I'm not getting my hopes up to high. Let's just see how it goes before we start talking about a fourth round. Hopefully we're in for an awesome tournament.

Re: Australian Open 2009
OOP on MCA:
Magdalena Rybarikova(SVK)vs. Vera Zvonareva(RUS)[7]
Potito Starace(ITA)vs. Bernard Tomic(AUS)
Caroline Wozniacki(DEN)[11]vs. Shahar Peer(ISR)
Dinara Safina(RUS)[3]vs. Alla Kudryavtseva(RUS)
Marc Gicquel(FRA)vs. David Nalbandian(ARG)[10]
I think that match will start not before 5 pm, most probably around 7 pm (If there are no WOs or rain delays or heat rules in force).
