SE Thread
Special Exempts (SE)
Rules:
We are going to use the same basic rules as the ATP. The manager will leave 1 or 2 SE spots (depending on the tournament) in the main draw, if they won't be needed, then the first player(s) on the qualifying entry list will be promoted from the qualifying draw to the main draw. More from the ATP Rulebook (page 70):
Quote:
a) A Qualified Event for Special Exempt to an ATP Masters Series Tournament is the singles event of another ATP Masters Series or International Series Gold Tournament.
b) A Qualified Event for Special Exempt to an ATP International Series Gold Tournament is the singles event of another International Series Gold or ATP Masters Series Tournament.
c) A Qualified Event for Special Exempt to an ATP International Series Tournament is the singles event of any International Series or ATP Masters Series Tournament.
d) A Qualified Event for Special Exempt to a Challenger Series Tournament is the singles event of any ATP or Challenger Series Tournament.
Number of special exempts
ATP Masters Series and International Series Gold Tournaments shall have one (1) Special Exempt and International Series and Challenger Series Tournaments shall have two (2).
Players may receive a Special Exempt into the main draw of the following week's tournament if they meet the criteria and apply for it. If the main draw is to be made before a potential Special Exempt player plays on Friday, then such place(s) shall be drawn in the same manner as qualifier, i.e., four qualifiers ("Q") and one or two "SE" depending on whether there are one or two possibilities. Each of the five or six slots are marked "Q/SE." As soon as the "SE" match results are known, either the "SE" or the next Direct Acceptance (if the SE lost) is randomly drawn and inserted into the draw.

Re: SE Thread
ok.. ive got a couple of questions and let me know if i got it right..
A) so.. TT Int Series SF grants a TT Int Series SE right? (or IS Gold..whatever) or is it a TT final? (friday is tt SF day.. that means, on friday we may know if that player is in a tt final, or not, depending on time zones)..
i just ask so people may not start speculation by saying "i got to a SemiFinal after thursday night, am i eligible to a SE? or do i have to be a winner on a friday match?"
B) What if there are 2, or 3 players in the qualy draw of an IS, playing a friday TT IS SF? what is the criteria to pick those 2 or 1 to get into main draw as SE? (I suggest "LOWEST RANKED"? or will it be highest ranked?)
in a nutshell: what is the criteria for more SE candidates to get to she SE spots? who should get it?
C) If a tournament Played in America has a possible SFilst (eligible to be a SE) and the time zone says play is gonna be done much longer after the european tournament qualy draw should be announced, should we save the spot for the SE? or not?
In a nutshell: Im playing QF of Costa do Sauipe and Im trying to get to Rotterdam.. Do I only need to win my thursday TT Costa do sauipe match to get to MD? As time zones will make the number of posible eligible SE players bigger..
(i think the rule kinda says "your timezone wont let you become a SE eligible player" which sucks, but i just want confirmation )
D) so.. im not sure about the last part of post 1 : if main draw has to be made before the TT friday match is over.. do we ignore the SE eligible player and just clear the spot? (im thinking of a friday Rain Delay.. which will nail this as a perfect example situation)
E) should we, then, set a "MAKE A DRAW DEADLINE" as managers make draws on random times.. my suggestion then, is.. as we have entry deadlines, to have "SE" deadlines to arbitrary set the time when SE are gonna be announced, and it is fair for everyone so everyone knows exactly how much time do they have to win a match and make it as an SE or to play qualy as if nothing happens.. and the "Unlucky" Player waiting to know if he will get or not a place in MD (if SE is cleared) will get his/her MD place or just play qualy
a long post, like old times! i hope this covers a lot of FAQ questions regarding the SE

Ok, I have a bit of time now
A) A player must be in a singles match on Saturday to be eligible for SE, that most of the time means they need to reach a TT Final to get the SE.
B) If there are more SE candidates than SE spots available then we follow the ATP rule, the highest ranked players in the TT entry rankings will get the spots.
C) Yes, we 'save' the SE spot. When the manager makes the draws, he leaves extra spots for the potential SE's in the MD, so he now has 5-6 Qualifier/SE spots in the draw. Timezone won't make a difference, The player must be playing on Saturday when the "qualifying begins".
D) No, we don't ignore the SE spot, we put in the draw (Q/SE) as explained above. If there is a rain delay and the matches have to be finished on Saturday, the player is eligible for the SE.
E) We don't need to set a deadline, both players must act if they are going to have play the qualifying and send picks. The manager makes the draws and leaves the SE spot open. If the potential SE player wins his Friday match, then he will be put in the SE/Q spot in the draw and replaced (by an alternate) in the qualifying draw. If the potential SE player loses his Friday match after the draws have been made, then SE/Q spot in the main draw is filled by the next direct acceptance in the entry list and that person will than be removed from the qualifying draw (and replaced by an alternate).
sounds complicated, but it's not the board members will help if necessary

Re: SE Thread
How can some players be potential SEs for both tournaments?
