Angry The Olympics- biggest stumbling block to a USO title?

I think Rogi is making a mistake playing in Athens such a short time before the Open. He should use the time for much needed rest instead, as it will be a very packed schedule if he is to win the Open, especially playing the semis and finals in consecutive days.

What do you guys think?

I think he values the Olympics more than the US Open, so he doesn't really care anyway.

I think he should go for the Olympics --- he narrowly missed the bronze in Sydney (Never mind that he found his soulmate in Sydney!), and this opportunity only comes every 4 years.

The USO is important, too, but since most contenders for the USO title will be playing in Athens I presume everyone will be equally tired, so it would affect everyone and not just Rogi

He can win the US Open any year, but not the Olympics, and that's his goal. Besides, the other main GS contenders are playing in Athens too (apart from Hewitt, and Agassi if you consider him still a contender!), so it's not like he's at a particular disadvantage. (Edit: oops, I notice mitalidas already said all that!)

Now that he has done well in Toronto, I think it would be wise to pull out of Cincy, but I doubt he will.

Yeah I don't think he will pull out either. But if he's not and looking at the draw there's chances he will go far in Cinci too. If that's the case, he may be exhausted in Olympics, and furthermore USO.

This year he certainly values Olympics more than USO. That loss in Sydney must have eaten him up for him to make Olympics so high on his priorities list for this year.

It's absolutely not a mistake to play Athens since we all know how much Roger wants to win the Olympics for his country. However personally I want Roger to win USO more than the Olympics. Three GS in one year is really cool isn't it Obviously Roger is thinking the opposite. So if he thinks he can, why should we worry so much?

Off topic, I'm thinking if he wins USO this Sep, how he's gonna go through next year

No, It is not a mistake to play in Olympics.

As it is said above, every top player would be playing for his country. Think what would everyone say if he is not playing for his country in Olympics. An unnecessary controversy which would be a black mark in an otherwise perfect year so far.

Thinking too much and worrying unnecessarily again huh, yanchr?

Rogi's goal for this year is :
1) be the no.1
2) defend wimby
3) win olympic medal

So how can it be a mistake? I personally rather him win in olympic than USO. I know I know....slam is more important blah blah blah...but so is winning a medal for his country I'm sure, else he wouldn't put it right up there. USO will be there every year anyway, just let Nalbandian win it this year, I'll be happy then for Rogi to do well consistenly for the remaining year.

This way, it's killing many birds with one stone : Rogi achieving all his goals, another of my favourite finally winning his first slam, most importantly Rogi having less to defend next year but still get to be no.1 this year... perfect huh?

Besides how great is it to achieve every goal you had set for the year?

What garbage, it's not a mistake for Federer to play the Olympics considering he values that more than the US Open, they don't come around all the time and unlike RonE's other favourite Sampras. Roger actually cares and wants to represent his nation and isn't solely out for himself.

I pretty much agree with that everyone has already mentioned about Federer.

Rogi does have every other day off during the open too. Its not like he won't have time to rest and relax.

Assuming the nonpartisan organizers don't give AR the free ride through rain and make everyone else suffer playing back to back. It was embarrassing what was done last year, they should learn a thing or two about professionalism from Wimbledon. Or, build that retractable roof!!!!

Sampras being all out for himself was especially apparent when he wouldn't take his team mates place in singles in DC against Australia.

When was this Wyven? Pete does have two DC titles and did play DC during his drought so I wouldn't say he was all about himself. He put his DC time in and help America win a few more DCS. Leave him alone already. What if god for bid Rogi decides he doesn't want to play DC anymore at some point in his career? He just wants to focus on titles and doesn't wish to miss Carlo anymore and some of the other events? I wouldn't get on his back. I seriously don't know how Rogi can put up with the DC pressure of having to be the whole team. God Bless him for doing it though.

olympics, mistake? no.
playing cicni, mistake? prolly not... he should be fine. roger likes to play a lot of tennis.

in response to dirk, i don't think roger will ever stop playing davis cup, but i wouldn't blame him if he did... i mean, they can't even find a decent doubles partner for him... he has to win all 3 points everytime they take court.
