Are we using the new scoring system or not? I think it should be implemented immediately.

Just looking at RG points and it's becoming clear how silly the old system is. If someone piked Federer they are almost guaranteed to outperform anyone who picked Nadal. Hardly fair based on picking one player differently.

I said this is the RG thread, but even if we agree to use the new system, I don't think it should be brought into play until next year. It messes with the year-end championship and all that to have such a drastic change mid-season.

It does. I am not going into the long-winded mathematical explanation for it, but even then I think it is always a bad idea to drastically change a rule such as this in the middle of a season.

It's just how points are allocated and it makes the game fairer and more about the skill of filling in the whole draw, than simply picking the winner of the tournament.

It doesn't change how rankings are allocated per tournament or whatever, just possibly the order of the players within a tournament. It won't make people run away from the game. It makes it a lot more interesting for people who, for example, picked Nadal and have now assumed they can't win. If the new system was used, they can still be cheering on their guys to get to semi's and finals and still have a chance.

Also, it wasn't agreed to wait til a new season, it was agreed to be trialled last week - it was only when people thought it would change the rankings that it might need changed, but it doesn't affect the rankings in the slightest. There is no mathematical explanation not to change it.

Try me if you like, I have a maths degree so I assure you there is no problem understanding it.

It changes the 2009 Race because it changes the way people approach selecting their bracket.

On a tournament by tournament basis, you are correct, it makes little difference. For the overall rankings, it doesn't matter, but for the yearly race I believe it does.

This isn't about people leaving the game, they will do it anyway. If the change is made, I certainly won't stop playing and running tournaments, but to say it makes no difference in my opinion is incorrect.

And I am saying this as someone who this change would dramatically help in RG.

And I'm saying it as someone who doesn't have a draw at all.

How does it not affect the rankings but affect the race? How does it change how you approach your bracket? Are you really suggesting people will, for example, consider Nadal for the French Open less than anyone else in future because his win is worth less points? The only thing it might change is it makes people thinking about FILLING IN THE DRAW, rather than just picking the winner and sticking whoever elsewhere.

Personally, I think about my whole bracket every week, not sure what everyone else does.

You haven't explained at all WHY it affects the race. The points given for the race are the same as far as I am aware (or perhaps still 1/5th, although I doubt that). People will still submit very similar draws - probably identical.

If you can justify why it affects anything at all, other than improving the game, please do tell us. Otherwise I'm starting a poll to change it. lol.

Is it not ridiculous, that someone who had (relatively speaking as up til then is still the old points system) can overtake the person who has (again relatively) done the best, based on one match?

I agree, the final should be the most important match, but with the new system it will be worth 600 points for a Grand Slam final win instead of an extra 2000. I don't want to just "go ahead" and introduce the system in Queens without majority backing of at least 3 or 4 of the regualar managers, perhaps even regular player as well.
