Marinko posts another straight sets victory 6-4 6-3 over Levy to reach the semis and in a 100K challenger makes is twice as impressive. Next up Sela or Becker, if Marinko can win that semifinal he will move into the top 200. If he can win the whole tournament he'll move to approximately 178 in the world and become the third highest ranked Australian presumming Carsten Ball doesn't make it passed the quarterfinals in Savannah.
It has been such a rapid ranking rise for him and it doesn't look like it is going to stop anytime soon. I really hope Marinko caries this form into RG qualies and picks up a win or two maybe even a first round appearance in the main draw. I'm not actually sure if he is any good on Clay. The last clay court tournament he played was a future in Australia where he made the final but I don't think that fairly represents his clay court ability considering up until the semis he didn't play anyone ranked inside the top 800. Anyway I hope he wins this tournament in Israel but even if he falls in the semis it's still a great week for him and on the verge of a top 200 spot.
Azza......he was ahead 5/2 first set and had 2 set points. Jeez...he is going so well and then his racquet broke. No excuses from him though........ He can play on clay buddy. Watch this space. I hope to be in Paris to see it.
Good to see Marinko is having a go at ATP qualifying now, he won his first round quali in Queens again Lukasz Kubot 5-7 7-6 6-4. Solid from Marinko to hold on for that one. Lets hope he qualis here. Got Stakhovsky next which wont be easy.
Good win but just a shame it was held on the indoor hardcourts. Stakhovsky should be an interesting match. He was in poor form before the French Open.
Ended up losing to Stakhovsky 63 63. I was surprised that they played the second qualies round on the same day. I thought it would have been more logical to leave it till tonight and play the third round tonight as well given that they played the first round on the indoor hardcourts.
