Del Pony is cracking under pressure. He does not know how to deal with slices, his atempts at net were quite bad cause he is not positioning himself well at net and doesn't cover the angles, he is way too much protecting DTL's leaving the CC wide open. With this kind of play from him Spain might have a chance to wrap this even before the 5th rubber.

Del Potro is playing a tactically poor match. I don't really know what he's trying to do. As expected, he's having a lot of trouble with Lopez's slice backhand.

As for Del Potro's net play, we all know that he's absolutely terrible up there.

I don't like the chances of Argentina winning the doubles and I don't like the idea of relying on Del Potro to beat Ferrer just to stay in the tie. So this will be a very annoying result.

The problem is that even he doesn't know what he is trying to do. This match is over.

Now it is. Del Potro serves two double faults to lose serve.

It's interesting because most players seem to come out with a clear gameplan when they play Lopez, since he has such obvious weaknesses.

Pony break back thanks to Lalo's terrible error (absolute sitter) at net. But I still think he is done.

So there it is. Lopez wins.

I'm more worried about whether Del Potro will be okay for the reverse singles.

Okay I just read that Del Potro was cramping, not injured so that's not so bad.

This looks really bad...Argentina can't afford to lose the doubles now, they have to win it to stay in it.
I believe David should play doubles...he looks very in shape and so motivated, and I think he (with either Calleri or Acasuso) can win the doubles.

It's a tough choice for the Argentines, that's for sure. Hope they can wrap this up

I think he faked it a bit. The incident did not look serious.

AP reports that Del Potro was suffering from a thigh injury:

Del Potro is scheduled to open the reverse singles Sunday against Ferrer, depending on the seriousness of his thigh injury.

“The doctor could not make a diagnosis right now,” del Potro said. “I don’t know what the injury is. Tomorrow we’ll find out what happened.”
