David was excellent today. Excellent and deep hitting, outrageous angles, rock solid volleying and assured serving under pressure. I loved what I was seeing . Hopefully Del Potro can put Argentina 2-0 up, although of course Lopez and his backhand slice could cause him some problems.

Which is nice considering how much he was going for it. In particular, I liked the change of pace and angles he was getting on it (and on the backhand side). He was excellent at net as well.

Well, some beautiful tennis from David today...he looks really fired up, and motivated. Playing for his country really fires him up and gets the unbelievably talented player out of him. Hope Argentina will win their first Davis cup title here
And the FH CC was AMAZING indeed

That is why I admire David, he plays with a game-plan. Most of the players has a weak BH side so he usually insists on BH CC exchanges, but he knows that Pics BH is consistent shot plus his best shot is when he runs around it and hits heavy FH CC inside outside. That is why he exploited his forehand side, plus with angles to lure him out of the comfort zone at the baseline, and Pics really sucks when he is near net and at net.

Yeah, changing the pace worked really well, upset Ferrer's rhythm very nicely. Also using the slice. I especially liked the one short cross. And those great half-volley drop-shots he already played against Murray in Paris. I think he went out there knowing exactly how he wanted to play. And at the net, he didn't always go for the direct winner, but remained calm and patient. In short - great match!

So what would we think about David playing doubles tomorrow?

Initially I thought it would be a bad move because why risk it when they have excellent chances to wrap it up on the third day. But on the other hand, playing against Lopez is hardly physically exhausting.

I hope everyone will stay here to comment on Del Potro's match by the way.

I think David will want to play doubles.
As his match today wasn't too long or hard. Against Russia it was a really bad idea, but why not this time. He seems in much better shape than back then and we're not on clay.

Okay, I fully agree with that.

Del Potro is up a set at the moment. His serve is working really well, while Lopez played an absolutely terrible service game to lose serve once.

Looks like the crowd are more vocal in this match, than the other one. I read from a while back that Del Potro has a band.

I agree that this is different situation than against Russia. I said it back then right from the start that it is a worse idea. Still I wouldn't put him to play doubles tomorrow because he has no decent partner among those 3. If Arnold was in the team and if Del Potro wins today I would have agreed with both hands. But in this situation it looks like a lost cause, despite the fact that doubles matches can be tricky and that there are no heavy favorites.

Really? Can't really imagine him in band (I make music myself)...
The crowd are surely sensing he needs their help. They didn't have to do too much for David.

About the doubles - I'm generally not a big fan of David playing doubles. But if he really wants to, this time it would't be as bad an idea as it was against Russia.
If he does, he'll probably play with Calleri. I've read they've been training a lot.

Nah, he isn't in a band (I obviously didn't put that previous sentence together in words very well). He's just got a group of supporters that have brought a band to support him in his DC matches.

That makes more sense. Though the thought is funny enough.

Into a second straight TB we go. It really does look like anyone's match at the moment. I would have thought that if Lopez were to make this match difficult that it'd mainly be by the strength of his serve but he does seem to be relatively effective in other areas as well today.
