Last minute he is out of top10, next minute he is one step away from China.

VAMOS

To be honest I feel a bit lucky in the 3ed set.

I remember there was a short forehand that he had early in the third set that he could have easily hit and come in behind, but he just hit it back midcourt and engaged back into the rally for a couple more strokes before Davydenko predictably hit the winning shot. Sums up how the second set and the first half of the third set was like. I mean, he was just not moving forward into his shots at all.

The second set first started with some poor returning, dumping quite a few makeable ones into the net then it all went downhill.

At least he stepped up his game (finally!), although probably only by about a small amount, and that was enough to make the difference.

pheww...that was nerve wrecking!! he wanted to win this badly, didn't he?
Not a "quality" match, to say the least, but the important thing is that he won
Hope he regains his yesterday form in the final though. Best of luck

What a nail-biter match. David could have won this easily 6-1 6-2 if did not stop playing. And he got him self on a verge of a defeat.

He had a lot of opportunities early on in the second set, missing a lot of easy shots, then Davydenko started to serve better.

Hard to know exactly what to expect tomorrow.

Strange match...
Throughout the second set I kept wondering if he was getting too tired to keep playing aggressively, or if he was caught off-guard by how Davydenko found his serve and his shots again - because he allowed him to.

At least he kept his head in the third.
But what a difference a day makes...
No idea what he'll come up with tomorrow, whether against Tsonga or Blake.

Yes, but David let him get back his confidence. Davydenko very rarely gets back from losing matches, especially against top players. However it is in the final Tsonga or Blake (I think it will be Tsonga), they are both aggressive players, if David does not take the initiative and let them dictate(like in the 2nd and 3rd set today) he will lose against any of them. He needs to bring back his gameplan from Del Potro match in case of Blake and against Tsonga he should get to the net more often and be prepared to hit a lot of passing shots.

If Blake wins now David is quaranted a Top 10 place and if he beats him in the final he will end up as 8th. If Tsonga wins then David has to beat him tomorow and he will end up in 7th place. Losing against Tsonga will rank him 11th.
