Re: Madrid 2008
Berdych/Del Potro/Federer-Tsonga/Roddick-Murray-?/Nadal-Djokovic-?/ Tough as it gets.
But thats AMS, you can't get many easy matches.

Yes that 8th segment of the draw that David has been placed in looks very tricky indeed. It will be fascinating to see how he does here.

Getting Berdych (if he wins his match as expected) as the opening match is about as tough as it can get. Berdych looked very dangerous when he won the title in Tokyo, especially in the final.
I'd like to see a match against Del Potro... with David winning it.

Of course David faced Berdych in the 2nd round and Del Potro in the 3rd round at Madrid last year, so there could be repeat of that here.
David squandering a 4-0 first set lead and then ultimately Berdych squandering a 6-4 4-0 match lead was hilarious, while Del Potro's rapid ascent over the past 3 months has been great to see.

I don't think he really cares too much about the rest of the season apart from Davis Cup, but he got an interesting section for sure.

Re: Defending champion David waves the red flag - will he be toppled in Madrid?
To be honest I don't fancy his chances against Berdych. He is on a great strike and from the match against Rainer it was obvious that he carried his form from Tokyo. He will be more accommodated to the surface and I think that he will be more motivated. I have a feeling that David is going to use the rest of the season only as a preparation for DC. Of course he will take it if he can do it easily, but I don't think that he will push it too much. And even if he wins he might tank the match vs Del Potro, but that's only my opinion and I do hope he will prove me wrong on this.
