Defeats number one seed Pedro Sousa 6-3 7-5! Plays unseeded American Rhyne Williams in the final.

Does anyone know Kubler's plans after the final?

another final! hopefully he can take out this one.

he's coming back to Australia after this, he's on the list for Mildura on the 20th. i reckon he'll stay for the clay court events in Ipswich and Bundaberg too.

I do not know, but I would be guessing if he wins he will spend the evening celebrating.

Thanks for the info. Sounds about right staying for the clay events.

Both finalists haven't dropped a set yet. Please take this title Jason!

+1 for thanks for the info.

Jason hasn't played on hard court since September 2010. Hard court success made him junior number one but he's showing he can get it done on any surface (clay results to boot and junior Wimbledon semis last year). I don't care if he barely plays on hard again as long as he stays (relatively) injury free and keep up the excellent work.

Great win over Sousa! Saw him in Florida at the end of last year. He has a big game, and I honestly thought that he was 23 or so with his build and on-court maturity. Couldn't believe when I recently looked at the ATP website and saw that he was still only 18!

I should note that American "clay" events, outside of only the ATP event in Houston, are all played on rubico (or "green" clay), which still play pretty fast.

On another note, can any of my Aussie friends give me advice on how to best secure a 457 Visa? I'm easy going, love tennis, and felt substantially more at home in Oz, and am ready to make the plunge!!!

Kubler def. Williams 6-2 6-3. Great to cap off a four week stint in US futures with a title. 3 finals and a title to start the season for Koobs. Lets hope he keeps this going and can have a run like Duckworth/Mitchell did last year. With this result Kubler will move to about 400 in the world and is about 50 points from the top 300. I have not seen Jason on any entry lists coming up so I have no idea where he is playing next.

The above answers Matchu's question.

I'm glad you like Australia so much! I don't know anything more than these websites will tell you:

It helps a lot if you have a job on the skilled occupation list: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule1.pdf

Woohoo! What a great tournament. Annihilated everyone. He has improved so much since he first tried to break onto the tour. Struggled to even qualify for these events.

Cheers StatRaoket for your links! Will look into wooing the newly single Jarmila Gadjodsova .

Jason's slow rise shows just how helpful that 250 and challenger WCs can be. A final followed by a win in back-to-back weeks at futures events is roughly equivalent to one win in a 250 event, or two wins in a challenger event. In futures events especially, all of the points are at the very top. If you're making it into the 3rd round every week, you're only netting 2 points per event, which gets you nowhere. To be in the finals in virtually every futures event played shows a commitment to the game and grinding mentality that is critical.

Really wish that Jason were entered in the Caloundra challenger this week (he could have gotten a direct entry off of just his ranking from several weeks ago), as that field is absurdly weak and would have presented him with a great opportunity to make a deep run if he got a good draw.

Great work koobs. Can't. Wait to see his ranking at the end of the year. If he can keep this up.

Wow the Caloundra field really is weak but as I mentioned earlier Jason looks to be staying well clear of hard courts at the moment.

Duckworth took full advantage of his January WCs but there's a lot of luck involved. James got 45 points for beating Zopp at the AO which is the same amount he got for 10 wins (2 Futures titles) in Poland last year. But had James drawn Berdych for instance he would've surely lost and would've had to earned those 45 points in a more tedious fashion.

As there are no natural surface events above Future level in Australia Jason appears to be pretty much out of luck as far as WCs are concerned. Although I am holding some hope that he will get the Australian Roland Garros wild card, either this year or next. At the moment I'd say Duckworth is first in line for it but he's already received 3 tour level wild cards this year so I hope Tennis Australia mixes it around.
