It's not the priority, but Richard will have to improve his english very fast if he continues to win ! lol

Press Conference with RICHARD GASQUET

Gasquet vs. Rochus 6:1, 6:1

Q: Congratulations. It must be a wonderful feeling to get into a Masters Series final?

A: I speak really bad in English (laughs). Yes, I am so happy to be in the final in Hamburg. It’s incredible. For me to play a final against Federer it’s a dream.

Q: It must be a dream for an 18 year old to go into a final against a player with such quality and class and have a winning record against him.

A: Yes I won in Monte Carlo but it was an upset for me. He is the favourite tomorrow, but I will play a great match tomorrow. I will do my best and we will see. But I will be very happy to be in the final.

Q: Has it been difficult to play seven matches and do you feel tired?

A: Yes, I was tired, but Rochus was more tired, I think. Tomorrow I will forget that because it’s the final. It’s very important to play a final against Federer for me. I will play a great match.

Q: What are your memories of the match in Monte Carlo?

A: An incredible match. I am thinking all days about this match. It was incredible to win against him. I don’t realize it today. But tomorrow I have to play another match against him. But I’m not the favourite. So, I will play a great match and I’m happy to be in the finals. It’s a great result for me.

Q: Does it help that you have had 3 matches that have gone reasonably quickly?

A: Yes, it was quick, but I played great tennis. It’s incredible to win three matches like this. I have energy for tomorrow I think.

Q: Because that’s going to be important for the best of five.

A: Yes it’s really important. It’s difficult for me to play five sets. But it will be great. I will have a lot experience after this match.

Q: How many 5 set matches have you played?

A: One but it was on grass court not on clay. I think it’s difficult for me.

Q: Do you like this court because it’s usually regarded as very slow?

A: Yes, it’s slow. But I like this court because it’s slow, I can play good tennis on this court. When I play good, I can play on every court I think.

Q: The weather forecast suggests that it might be cooler tomorrow, maybe a little rain which will make it even slower. Will that help you?

A: Yes, I think because if it’s slow it will be good for me. I think Federer doesn’t like slow courts. I don’t know. I prefer to play him on a slow court.

Q: Is clay your best surface?

A: No, I don’t know because I can play on hard court, grass. I don’t know.

I remember his five-setter. Wimby last year vs Kenneth Carlsen... Kenneth is still trying to understand how he won Richard led all sets except the last, but ended up losing 2 of them.

He dropped 8 games on his last 3 games, that is nothing short of AWESOME.

Go Richard! You can do it again!

Don't know if this has been posted yet. Apologies if so.

Richard Gasquet: Tennis-X 5 Questions

By Richard Vach, Senior Writer Tennis-X.com

Tennis-X sat down with talented French teen Richard Gasquet following his three-set win over Nicolas Massu this week at the Masters Series Hamburg. With his win on Saturday, Gasquet is set to take on Roger Federer in the final in Hamburg in the biggest match of his young career.

The gangly giant-killer touched on the wildcards he should perhaps be receiving, and dealing with the pressure of being "next" in French tennis.

Since Gasquet is still getting a grasp on his English, this interview was translated from French.

Tennis-X: Has your win over Roger Federer earlier during the claycourt season elevated your confidence level, or do you feel your confidence is the same?

Gasquet: Yeah it gave me a lot of confidence to beat the No. 1 player in the world, it means you should be able to beat everyone behind him, so it's given me confidence.

X: You've qualified for a number of tournaments already this year, does paying your dues like this help develop your game, as opposed to getting wildcards all the time?

Gasquet: It's true, I could have probably got a wildcard into Monte Carlo, and I probably deserved one, but you play the qualies and that meant I was ready when I started the main draw having three matches won.

X: When is a Davis Cup debut for France realistic?

Gasquet: It's impossible to tell, it's not in my hands. Hopefully I'll be selected the next time.

X: Federer made the comment about your pro debut years ago and the intense pressure you faced, is that pressure still as intense?

Gasquet: Of course you always have a lot of pressure, especially at home in France. There are high expectations in Monte Carlo and especially at Roland Garros, but it is good for French tennis to have high expectations, so it is alright.

X: How much support do you receive from the current top French players, and who are you particularly close to?

Gasquet: We're all very close, were all good friends. Of course being young I am closer to the players from my generation where I come from, players like (Gael) Monfils, but we are friendly with the other players and it is good.

In his 2002 rookie year a 16-year-old Gasquet stoked French expectations by becoming the youngest player to finish in the Top 200 on the ATP Rankings; winning a challenger, two futures titles, and becoming the youngest player to qualify for a Masters Series event at Monte Carlo. Entering 2005 the French teen had yet to crack the Top 75, but earlier this year shocked world No. 1 Roger Federer at Monte Carlo. Special thanks to the ATP's Simon Higson for translation assistance.

When did we get this baby? I don't come online for 2 days and this is what happens? Splendid.

Won't be able to see final tonight as I will be working, but I think that is probably the best thing, don't think I will last. Great to see him finally reaching these finals, I keep thinking back to when he was a scrawny 15 year old out on the back courts at the Aus Open.

Default Re: ~*Musketeer-to-be*~Richard Gasquet

Quick Question: Has Richard ever won a best of 5 set match. I know that he never won a match in a Grand Slam which means he never won there and since he's never played Davis Cup I can't possible think of another time he would of even had a chance to play a best of 5 set match.

If I am correct he's played 6 best of 5 set matches in his career and lost all of them. Correct me if I am wrong (3 at Roland Garros, 2 at the Australian Open, and 1 at Wimbledon).

Just an interesting stat if Richard does win tomorrow. It would be his 1st victory in a best of 5 set match.

Allez!!!

P.s Love the woof avator also!

TENNIS

HAMBOURG (ATP, Masters Series, terre battue)

HAMBOURG – (ALL)

de notre envoyé spécial

« JE SUIS NUL, putaing ! Pitoyable !
