Nishikori returned Japan and held a press conference today, revealing that a recent MRI scan at an elbow specialist in New York found a small stress fracture deep in his elbow.
He will stay at his parents' house in Shimane for a while and aim at returning to tour at USO.
He said he felt really down that the fracture was discovered after eight weeks of rehabs. He also felt realy bad and angry but all he can do is rest.

Poor Kei...!
I have lost all the trust in the physical staff at the Bollettieri's!
(See what happened to Sharapova too!)

Here is an article about the injury in English.

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/sports/20090526TDY20301.htm

Injured Nishikori to miss Wimbledon

Ken Marantz / Daily Yomiuri Sportswriter

Having dropped out just days before the French Open, Kei Nishikori recently got the bad news that he will also miss Wimbledon next month.

Nishikori, the highest ranking Japanese in men's tennis, has a small stress fracture in his right elbow and will be out of action for two to three months, it was revealed Monday.

"I was really shocked," Nishikori said at a press conference in Tokyo. "All I can do now is rest for two or three months.

"I can't decide now what tournament I can enter next, but for now I'm aiming for the U.S. Open," which starts Aug. 31.

The 19-year-old Nishikori underwent an MRI on his elbow Wednesday in New York that revealed the extent of the injury that he first suffered in January and has plagued him since.

"This is the biggest injury [of my career] and I'll be out longer than I expected," Nishikori said. "My rank will keep falling and I can't do anything about it, so it's very disappointing."

Nishikori, who left Japan to attend the noted Bollettieri Academy in Florida at age 14, has dropped to 116 in the ATP rankings since starting the year at 61 and reaching a career-high 56th in early February.

Nishikori, who last year became the first Japanese to win an ATP tournament in 16 years, last played at the ATP Masters in Indian Wells in mid-March, losing in the first round to Ivan Ljubicic. He has a 4-6 record for the year.

With the pain failing to subside, the Shimane Prefecture native embarked on an eight-week rehabilitation program, which included strengthening his shoulder to lessen the burden on his elbow.

But the pain never fully went away and Nishikori went to see Dr. David Alcheck, who often treats pro athletes in the New York area and discovered the small but deep fracture.

Nishikori said he can play pain-free for one set, but the potential strain of playing a five-set match at a Grand Slam event led him to withdraw from the French Open, which started Sunday.

While disappointed, Nishikori also sees a positive side to his extended layoff.

"This will be a hardship, but I'll look forward to playing again that much more," he said. "I'll also rest mentally so I can come back at more than 100 percent."

Oh my....what a sad news for Kei and for us. I'm really sad right now, i will have to wait again for another 3 months to see Kei play. And then after that 3 months, they will announce another injury, cmon tell us all what's the real problem and don't keep on presenting bits by bits of sad news.

I apologize for ranting, but i'm just disappointed as Kei is. Well again, i might sound sarcatic, but let just look at the bright side, hopefully he will be better after 3 months.

Goodluck Kei! We be here to continue to support you and to continue to wait for your comeback. Forget the rankings, its inevitable now. You'll just have to start a new quest.

Kei's name is on the alternate list for Los Angeles, which starts on July 27. I don't think he will play, but maybe he penciled it just in case he can?
Hope he's doing well with rehab and training.
He's ranked #116 this week, I don't think his ranking will change a whole lot until USO.

Hey Chewy, check out his blog on his official site because he updates it from time to time, although the English version appears rather late.

Now he's back in US. He sounded a bit down in his blog entry on June 22 (in Japanese), but in his latest entry (June 26, again in Japanese), he said he was grateful to his fans who posted many comments on his previous entry, and it seems he's trying to come to terms with the situation he's currently in with a more positive attitude.

As Hchoo posted on the video thread with a youtube clip, Kei has been confirmed to play the new Malaysian Open in September. I think he will receive WC.
Hope to see him fit and play the way he wants by then!

Other players scheduled to play in Kuala Lumper are Verdasko, Davydenko, Ferrer, Gonzalez, Soderling, Monfils.

According to Kei's bog in Japanese today, he's been back in Japan since last week.
He saw his doctor in New York early this month and was told the stress fracture was already healed. But he still has some pain so he's going to get a second opinion from a Japanese doctor.
He's training hard as well and wrote that he had a really tough training on his lower body (I think he means his legs, maybe a lot of running and muscle training?) yesterday. But he also wrote he feels refreshed after a hard training regiment becuase, although his body aches the following day, he can feel he's getting stronger. He still doesn't know when the elbow gets better but he is planning to stay in Japan and continue with training and rehab until the pain is gone.

Those of you who can read Japanese or who are learning Japanese should read it by yourself.

Thank you, bunny! You are a really good translator.
I have just requested Kei to update his blog in English.
I am very worried about his elbow pain.
Let's keep our fingers crossed for him.

Thanx Kinokino, you're always kind!

As you may be aware, one stupid sports tabloid in Japan (Nikkan Sports) jumped the gun a few days ago and unfairly reported Kei is unlikely to play USO.
It was posted on that notorious 2-channel message boards so you can imagine how many pepole now believe Kei is not playing USO even before the entry list comes out!
OK, it seems he hasn't been able to start hitting the ball yet, and you need at least a few weeks of practice on court and preferably some match play to be able to play at a slam. So it is possible Kei may well withdraw from USO, but I think these reports are really unfair.

Anyway, a good news is that Kei's ranking has improved to #105 this week.
Entry list for USO will be based on this week's rankings, so he will be #1 on the alternate list, which means he's very much likely to be in the main draw even if a few players use a protected ranking to be ranked above him.
It's great he doesn't have to play qualies!!

Hi Rafkei!

The only source of that report is Kei's blog on July 16, which I summed up above. The tabloid just says it's unlikely Kei will play USO because he's still saying he has pain in the elbow. And there's still more than 1 month before the Open!
Well that's tabloids for you!

On the same day as the report, IMG said that the fracture on Kei's elbow got better and that he would prepare for the USO.

In another news, Kei entered Montreal qualies, which starts on Aug. 8.
I don't think he will play this one, but if he can, I hope he'll do well and qualify!
