Kei has entered the Charlotteville challenger in Virginia from Nov. 1.

He's ranked #119 this week. Since he has no point to defend until next April, I think he has a very good chance to return to top 100 soon...!

After reaching QF in Charlottesville last week, Kei's ranking has recovered to #120. He has the same number of points as Soeda, but, since Kei did better at GS, he is now ranked ahead of Go, meaning Kei is back to being Japan's No. 1 player.

I hope and believe he can solidify a position well inside the top 100 next season. If he can stay injury-free the rest should take care of itself, but that's a big if.

An Article from Live-tennis.com

Other young notables that did not make my chosen criteria

"Kei Nishikori is just 20 years old and he is currently ranked 100th in the world. He appears to be a better pure talent than many of the players looked at in this article and he's already made the 4th round of a Grand Slam. Injury has blighted Japan's top player at times but 2011 may be a promising year although he is limited by height at just 5'10"."

Default Re: Kei's news thread

Kei's year-end ranking is #98.
So he achieved his goal of returning to top 100 by the end of the year!
I think It's a great achievement considering he had no ranking in April!
And the good news is he has no point to defend until late next April, and his ranking points effectively consists of the points from 14 tournaments only, which means he can just add points he wins from the next four tournaments he plays.

I hope he can stay injury free and play mainly ATP tournnaments and slams next year. He'll be 21 by the end of this month. Although players from Asian countries tend to peak later than those from other countries, I think the next couple of years will be crucial for his tennis career, to see how far he can go and what his potentials are.

Now Kei is back in Japan and has done some promotional events for Adidas etc., and will also spend time with his family in Shimane. He will be back to US before Christmas and start training.
There was a Twitter chat at Adidas Japan last week, and he said his favourite musician now is Japanese singer Salyu, and somehow he also statred listening to classical music, like Chopin, Mozart and Elgar. (...maybe not a big surpries because his mum is a piano teacher.)
On Dec. 19, Wowow will show a documentary programme on Kei and Kimiko Date Krumm. I will let you guys know if there was something worth reporting.

Default Re: Kei's news thread

After Chennai, Kei will play World Tennis Challenge in Adelaid from Jan. 11-13.
It's a strange lineup with legend players teaming up with current players.

Americas: John McEnroe/James Blake
International: Ivan Lendl/Ivan Ljubicic
Australasia: Pat Cash/Kei Nishikori
Europe: Henri LeConte/Michael Llodra

PAT CASH TO PARTNER JAPAN TENNIS SUPERSTAR

Japan’s No.1 player, Kei Nishikori, will partner Pat Cash at the World Tennis Challenge (WTC) to be held from 11to13 January 2011 at Memorial Drive, Adelaide.

WTC Co-tournament Director Darren Cahill announced the final WTC player today and said the 20 year old and Cash will form a dynamic team.

“Kei Nishikori is a great addition to the World Tennis Challenge and we are delighted to have the 2008 ATP Newcomer of Year play in Adelaide,” Cahill said.

“He is hailed as Japan’s next big tennis superstar and his pairing with Cash will provide the rival teams some tough competition.“

WTC Co-tournament Director Mark Woodforde said he is happy with the calibre of players the World Tennis Challenge 2011 has attracted.

“Nishikori, who is currently ranked 98, has some impressive credentials,” Woodforde said.

“He has been as high as No.52[sic] and in 2008 he made the round of 16 of the US Open, the youngest person since Pete Sampras.

“He is also the youngest player to win an ATP title since Lleyton Hewitt, in Adelaide on 11 January 1998, making him the first Japanese man to win an ATP title in 16-years.”

Nishikori who captured the Delray Beach title shortly after his 18th birthday said he is excited to be joining the event.

"I am really looking forward to visiting Adelaide and playing in my first World Tennis Challenge. I feel that I have had a good year and a few matches before the Australian Open will be ideal preparation"

"I am thrilled to be playing in World Tennis Challenge in Adelaide and partnering Pat Cash. The other teams are very strong and I know the competition will be tough. But this will be a good preparation for the Australian Open," Nishikori said.

He has been hailed as Japan’s next tennis superstar and Legend Shuzu Matsuoka raved, “A new star is born. His talent is beyond mine.”

“With his unbelievable on-court speed, monster ground strokes and punishing serves, Kei is on his way to carving a record-breaking path in the tennis world.”

Henri Leconte and Michael Llodra are also confirmed for Team Europe, Ivan Lendl and Ivan Ljubicic for Team International, and John McEnroe and James Blake for Team America.

Minister for Tourism, John Rau said the event was significant from a tourism perspective.

“The World Tennis Challenge has become an important part of South Australia’s events calendar, attracting large numbers of international and interstate visitors to our State each year,” says Mr Rau.

“The pairing of Cash and Nishikori will add to the excitement of this popular event and, along with other tennis greats such as John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl, will undoubtedly draw more diehard tennis fans to Adelaide.”Kei Nishikori

Sell-out crowds are expected in 2011 with Lendl to face former rival McEnroe. Both share a record of 12 year-end world championships with the rivalry still remaining fierce between the two players.

Welcome, Armless!

As you guys are aware Kei is back in US since about a week ago and is practicing hard every day. (See his facebook.)

In Japan, a 100-minute documentary about Kei and Kimiko Date Krumm will be shown in about an hour. I will report on it if it's got something interesting.

Also, it seems during his stay in Japan, Kei took part in the shooting of a New Year sports variety show hosted by popular comedy duo Tonneruzu. That one will be shown hear in the New Year.
