Great Britain team announced
John Lloyd, Great Britain’s Davis Cup captain, has announced the team for Great Britain’s World Group Play-off tie against Austria, taking place from 19th-21st September at the All England Club, Wimbledon.
The team will be:
Andy Murray
Alex Bogdanovic
Jamie Murray
Ross Hutchins
John Lloyd said: “I firmly believe that I have picked the team that stands the best possible chance of getting us back into the World Group in 2009.”
Lloyd went on, “Andy has been playing some fabulous tennis this summer and is a match for anyone. I have options with my doubles combination, which is so often the crucial rubber in Davis Cup ties and Alex is returning to form just at the right time. Austria are a tough side, but with the support of a home crowd, we are capable of beating them- it is sure to be an exciting three days of tennis.”

Bogdanovic and Peya playing a decisive 5th rubber is a funny thought.

Schaller said he saw Bogdanovic in Wimbledon and New York and wasn't impressed. He expects 2 points from the matches against Bogdanovic.

He can expect all he likes, but as much as I hate myself for saying it, Boggo has a realistic shot against Peya (if he doesn't shit himself, as per usual).

Boggers in half decent form... which means electrifying for him... so his rubbers are definitely not dead... Fischer just winning 5 straight in Nottingham on hard... Melzer of course running Murray to the edge in New York... Jamie Murray and Ross Hutchins the best looking team on the weekend...

Don't know whether Lloydy is trying to play games or anything (most likely not), but he has already stated who he'd prefer to play on Saturday...Murray/Murray. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think it really matters...we rely heavily on Andy, while Austria rely heavily on Melzer. Both will play 3 rubbers barring injury/serious fatigue.
The problem with Boggo is that he doesn't have the balls...he has the talent, and is capable of getting some half-decent results, but when it actually matters, he is unable to produce the goods. But in a potential live 5th rubber with Peya, I don't know how much all this really matters...not like Peya has been a world-beater, himself.

Re: World Group Play-Offs: Austria at Great Britain (September 19-21, 2008)
in a weird way i think boggo has a better chance vs melzer 1st day rubber than peya in a deciding 5th. he wont be under extreme pressure vs melzer and was a set up to him on grass a few years back at newport. although if melzer plays like he did at the uso then boggo has no chance.
if boggo feels good he can play well on grass (as seen by the match vs roddick last year) and maybe if murray plays 1st and wins melzer will be under a bit of pressure.

This could be a great tie. Day 1 should finish 1-1.
Depending on how quickly Andy dispatches Peya, I can still see Andy playing in the doubles. The doubles is a must win rubber for GB because if Andy gets up against Melzer then you don't want the tie resting on Boggo.
