Man, I've only posted here full-fledged progressive rock, like Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Yes, Genesis.

I wasn't talking about you. Our dear Karin said the scope was open, and frankly considering The Moody Blues proggie is far from being a stretch. I know wikipedia is no bible, but:

"The Moody Blues are an English band originally from Erdington in the city of Birmingham. Founding members Michael Pinder and Ray Thomas performed an initially rhythm and blues-based sound in Birmingham in 1964 along with Graeme Edge and others, and were later joined by John Lodge and Justin Hayward as they inspired and evolved the progressive rock style. Among their innovations was a fusion with classical music, most notably in their seminal 1967 album Days of Future Passed."

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

I fully agree. I know, Gu is more of a hard-liner than me and obviously disagrees with me here, but I think no-one can deny the obvious proto-proggie elements in The Moody Blues' music.

Not even to mention that they were one of the first bands experimenting with and exploring the possibilities of the MELLOTRON - an instrument largely considered *essential* to progressive rock (no wonder the instrument is being used by many contemporary prog artists again).
I have no doubts that many early 1970's prog artists listenened to Days of Future Passed and immediately realized, "Hey guys, THIS is the sound we're looking for!"

Who's Manuel, Karin? Days of Future Passed put me to sleep yesterday. What a lovely record.

- just corrected, Jose. You know I have a terrible habit of getting names mixed up at times. My apologies!

It's a great record indeed - it scores 4.2 out of 5 at http:www.progarchives.com, so apparently many folks agree.

Hmmmmm wikipedia is hardly a 100%-trustable source.

I don't think every semi-proto-progressive band should be considered progressive, otherwise just about anything with a keyboard would fall in the progressive category.

It's an elite group (the progressive bands) and I feel we should keep it that way.

I'm not saying the Moody Blues doesn't have its value.

I think we can ALL agree that Springsteen is in no way prog.
But there's nothing wrong with posting proggie coverversions of his songs.

Speaking of proggie covers of non-proggie songs, here is the best example thinkable, imho:

Yes transforming Paul Simon's America into a nine-minute mini symphony.

Hehe, Yes' fixation with 60s folk songs...

America is a great song. I used to listen to Simon and Garfunkel a lot when I was a kid.

LOL Yes... I read in one of the many biographies on the band that that was a typical airy-fairy Anderson-tic, right from the start. I have a seen a quote from one of the other band members (wouldn't at all be surprised if it was Chris) that he'd always come up with god-awful cheeky stuff, actually forcing the rest of the guys to make it into a full-fledged Yes Symphony.
Needless to tell, in most cases they managed. At least in the first ten years of their career.

I still do. Simon was (not so sure about 'IS' ) an awesome composer who came up with a lot of fantastic tunes.

so true. I do like their covers. Everydays is such a beautiful tune, for instance. I don't know about some of Anderson's songs, though. He does seem to sport a pretty tacky taste...

Yeah he was. Simon had a really prolific career in the 60s, 70s - of great songs.
