Default Federer really is unlucky the Olympics are this year

First of all this thread is not meant to be ironically.

Federer imo really is unlucky the Olympics are this year right in his year of his decline and when he got passed by a better Nadal and Djokovic. His chance to win gold isn't that high imo. Just imagine the Olympics have been last year. Would have been a walk in the park. Not so this year. It's his last chance to win gold anyway I think as he would be too old in 4 years.

Gold medal aspirations should be the very least of Roger's concerns.

as far as i know it's one of his biggest goals and you can be sure his country is expecting him to bring home the gold medal. he's switzerland's best athlete so he has to show something. so to say he doesn't care about it is not true.

Indeed. As for this year, yeah he's definitely unlucky and he'll be probably too old (or retired) in 2012.

I never suggested that winning a gold medal wasn't of any personal significance to him, but rather that his priorities should be elsewhere.

Bad luck?

I think it's just the way tennis goes.

I mean, he was bound to have a bad year after playing above excellence for so many years.

I don't anybody here expected Federer to have so many losses this year true, but the olympics coming along the way have little to do with Fed's luck.

I think he has enough awards as it is!

which priorities? there isn't much left this year to look for him. besides that this year for him is ruined anyway. his laureus is gone too.

so why should he not make the olympics as his priority?

Well on the other hand it gives him a chance to get ranking points, when he wouldn't have scheduled a tournament otherwise.

Fed has all the motivation to go for gold, and this means he won't be easy to beat out there, same goes for the US open too.

I means a lot to him. It's like a Grand Slam for him, and he always plays well at the slams, even this year... I'm not ready to believe he's gonna play like THAT there too. We'll see, i'm still hoping he can pull himself together for the Olympics.

He should have won this thing in 2004. He messed up and it's going to be his last chance to win it this year. The Olympics should absolutely be his priority right now. A win there, amongst his Swiss colleagues will do him the world of good. He's not going to win the USO by going back home and practising with his coach. He needs a boost in confidence and a gold would give him just that.
