Default Kiwi's summer hardcourt season 2008 (soon playing: US Open)

Here we go again. It's time for the US Open series, though it'll be interrupted by Beijing this year.
And Kiwi continues being in good shape, beating Fish 7:5, 7:6(4). He was down twice in the 2nd set (with a break, and 1:4 in the TB), but pulled off the win. Too bad that he played on a court without any TV coverage. At least he could finish before the rain delay. Next up is either Youzhny, whom he defeated in Halle, or Seppi ().

lol, probably Seppi would be the worse opponent for Kiwi?! We can't really say if he still had it in the back of his head when playing him and if it affected him in any way. Youzhny is the better player normally and more dangerous, but in bad form at least gives you some unforced errors, and we all saw how bad Kiwi likes Seppi's style (on clay last time he could do nothing with his shots than just pushing them back into the court).

So it was Youzhny, after all, and Kiwi made it 1:1 between Germany and Russia by defeating him again. 7:6, 7:5.
1h 20 for the first set.

His next match, against Davydenko, should finally take place on a Showcourt, the Grandstand. If there's no rain, of course.

Neely, could you please change the thread title?

nice surprise today morning as I saw the result

Now a win against Davydenko would be really an exclamation mark!

Yes, the result this morning was very good.
Hopefully I´ll read something similar tomorrow morning, because with the rain delay I can´t watch Kiefer (hopefully) winning.

F...yeah, Kiwi (with a new haircut, btw.) won.
The russian was already leading with a break in the 2nd set.
Kiwi wasted 2 SPs in a row, but managed to still win the set by converting the 4th one.
There was a very long rally at 15:30 in the first game of the final set, which he won thanks to a drop shot. Really important not get broken right away.

Next up is Blake. Blake is leading the H2H 3:0, but if Kiefer manages to continue playing from the baseline like he did today (and with a little bit help from Blake)....who knows. Better than Nadal or Djokovic, that's for sure.

I'm glad Kiwi kept the German flag flying against Davy since Tommy couldn't do it

Really good that he has beaten Davydenko, but he needs to overcome a 0-3 h2h against Blake. I hope he has a better chance today because he is a very good form!

Kiefer def. Blake 6-1 6-2

very good, I didn't ever think of that!!

Loved a few points, especially one in the 2nd set which was a rather long rally and as Kiefer was able to turn defense into offense after some running.

That was the bp at 3:2*, 15:40. Best rally of the match.
His bh return was working so well, it reminded me of one match against Andreev at Roland Garros (Waske was doing co commentary for that one).
