Don't laugh, that's a real problem for Gaël!

Nalbandian next, Gaël gave him a hard time in their only match last year in Roland-Garros.
It should be more difficult on this surface, but who knows? Nalby hasn't been really tested either so far, I think.

An interview, but it's pretty much the same. It sounds a bit more positive than the audio interview though:
http://fr.sports.yahoo.com/12082008/...ros-match.html
It was a serious match from him, very constant.
The outside courts are much slower than the Center court and the showcourts. The balls are bouncing high too, it's not easy to hit winners, so his tactics (varying the pace a lot and slowing down the game) have been effective enough so far.
Hanescu played really well when he broke back at 5-4 and Gaël didn't panic, just thought he had missed a first chance and he would have more.
He doesn't feel a lot of pressure.
In the match against Almagro he called the trainer 2-3 times because his calf was cramping. He still feels it, but it's OK.

Last match on Center court tomorrow!
-> Livestream + no need to wake up so early anymore!

Nalby really isn't looking very fit! GaŽl's game isn't exactly flawless, but "good enough" again so far. He looks so much faster.
Allez, 6-4!

Yes, it is, thanks!
He looked quite good out there, fast, focused and sharper than I was expecting him to be. Nole will probably be too much, Nalby was very sluggish and average, but that's promising.

durs.

- On joue bien.
Je me sens bien.
prendre contre lui. En plus, il m’avait battu chez moi (NDLR : à Roland-Garros en 2006 ;

Default Re: Summer hardcourt season 2008

The journalist tells him the atmosphere was quite weird for such a big match, a stadium with 10 000 seats and almost completely empty. He answers he didn't even take notice, he was so focused.
He feels better and better physically. It isn't so hot anymore. Winning tough matches gave him confidence and he's feeling well now. He didn't have any lapse of concentration for a change. It was a very serious match from him and he's happy with his performance.
He's been practicing well after a little break (he means the time after Wimbledon, I think - the injury and the change of coach). He deserves these wins. He played well in the US hardcourt tournaments, Andreev was just too good for him on that day. And in Cincinnati he was sick, but his victories here are the consequence of the work done in the past 2 months. Now he'll have to confirm these good results.
The next match will be a big match again. They know each other for a long time with Novak. He has a revenge to take since Nole beat him at home last time (in RG 2006). He knows how he will play against him, but he doesn't want to say more.
The journalist asks if the Frenchies are more motivated than players from other countries for the Olympics. He says that everybody would like to win a medal. There were Argentine athletes from other sports tonight to support Nalbandian. He certainly didn't tank.
He thinks he can still improve some little things in his game. It's not easy. He has to stay closer to his baseline. And he can also improve some tactical things he has worked on with Roger (so he's still working with Rasheed, I'm very relieved! )

Yay Gael!
I didn't know the Olympics was giving ranking points...where have I been?

Thanks Truc for the translating

I'm studying French now so that's good practice for me...

So much about the importance of the Olympic tennis tournament, no crowds, no TV coverage. Allez Gael against Djokovic!

"Learning French with Gaël Monfils"!
Not a bad choice, he expresses himself quite well imo. But be careful, he sometimes uses his own expressions!
Seriously, good luck with learning French, I'm so glad I didn't have to learn it.

I posted the article in L'Equipe today in the Beijing thread because it was not just about Gaël:
http://www.menstennisforums.com/show...5&postcount=81
Sounds like Gaëlou was a bit moody in his press conference. Well, it was late. His audio interview sounds OK to me. The others also give "insipid" answers all the time.

I'm sick of GM mentioning over and over again the US Open story between them.
GaŽl says he wants to take revenge, but for the defeat at home in RG ("il m'a battu chez moi la derniŤre fois").
Julie for example said a few times they were training together in Bercy or Monte-Carlo and seem fine together. I can't believe GaŽl would bear a grudge for the rest of his life because of that story (all the more since he's the kind of guy who can pull the same stunts and lie on the ground in a theatrical way).
