From what you saw was he at least trying to get to net once a game? I think big improvement that he's actually thinking about being more aggressive.

Hmmm, maybe it's just me, but I hardly remember him at the net during long, long parts of the match today...
I will try to pay more attention to it tomorrow.

Gael is really on fire since one month. He wins, he wins even so when he played little badly. It will depend of the draw but i predicts at least a 1/8 in Wimbledon !

Default Re: Grass season 2008

Well, I don't know, I find it strange L'Equipe would write that, it's not Paris Match. All the more since they can totally argue one week and then get back together the next week.

In L'Equipe today:
Quote:
VINCENT COGNET
He's confirming in Nottingham that his great run in Roland wasn't just a fluke and is showing the same qualities as in Paris: perfect attitude, good concentration, sustained effort, ability to adapt to very different players.
The wind was blowing in gusts again yesterday, so he patiently waited for his chances (in the TB and then at 2-2 in the 2nd set). He says it was very hard to play well because of the wind and the weather which was changing all the time, sunny, cold... He was just trying to focus on every shot. He doesn't think much about his good results of late, really focuses on each match.
Champion means that Gaël can't afford to be passive today against Karlovic. He'll need to be solid mentally because it's going to be like hell and to take his few chances hitting big cross shots to make Karlovic run and open the field. Champion also says that Gaël managed to win against Spadea without playing really well and that's good news. He played the TB like a guy with a lot of confidence who doesn't panic. That's definitely a positive.

I don't get the betting odds at all for today. Karlovic seems the huge favourite for the bookies, Gaël's odds are around 3 on Betfair!

He is in the Federer part of the draw at wimbledon. He will play him in the third round if all goes well.

Tough draw seeing his great form recently.

Tough draw, even his 2 first rounds are not a complete walk in the park. But we can't complain after that draw he had in Roland.

One more reason to focus on Nottingham and try to win the event.
How do the bookies dare underrate him that way, make them pay for it, Gaël!

I'm trying to keep the count of his net attempts today and well, I'm not very busy!
4-3 and I've seen one volley from Gaël so far (he made the point, of course, he most always wins the point when he comes to the net!)

He had his usual slow start, Karlovic broke right away and he's now trailing...

Yessss, he breaks back with a huge scream, just as I was posting that!

I might have missed a couple of points, but we're in the middle of the TB and I'm still stuck at 1 volley.

He screamed again after a passing-shot which gave him a mini-break in the TB, he looks very motivated! But he wasted his lead, Karlovic always comes to the net and lets him run along his baseline.

Grrrr, poor tiebreak, he isn't trying anything.

My livestream was dead, but when it came back, he went to the net twice in a row, maybe there's still hope he comes with some "plan B".
The bad news is that his shoulder seems to hurt. 0 ace and he looks in pain after each serve. He's getting a massage atm...

The shoulder definitely looks worrying, the physio comes at every change of ends, but I like he's at least trying something new and playing consistently S&V now!
Some of the volleys are horrible, but it's still better than this sliding along the baseline which makes me cringe. 5-3.

Rebreak when he's serving for the set. He played 2 awful volleys right at the beginning of the game and isn't winning any free point anymore with his serve (he's still getting treatment for his shoulder every other game).
