Default Re: Grigor Dimitrov

The match just killed me. I was more emotional than whenever I placed a bet on anything. Grigor had match point at 4-5 on Vanek's serve and then another one on his own serve at 6-5 in the TB, but could not finish it. Finally he closed it 8-6 and got the deserved first (of many I hope) win on the main tour. His second serve was more efficient than in Madrid as he got 57% points won behind it and he kept his cool saving 10 BPs.

Reister is No 272 in the world so he is weaker on paper than Vanek. He plays mostly on clay, but has a very good and powerful first serve. He always plays in Basel and failed to qualify in 2005, but did it in 2006 and 2007 beating the likes of Koubek, Navarro, Karanusic. Overall a beatable opponent so I hope Grigor will do well. Good luck!

Grigor plays Reister first up on the center court at 9 CET.

From what I read in Bulgarian sites he will also hit an exhibition game in the evening with James Blake (most likely).

Too bad Grigor lost his game. I suppose it was too much effort yesterday and too much excitement from the maiden ATP Tour win. He was very much competitive throughout the first set from what I saw on the livescore, but he missed a lot of chances and managed to convert just one of six BPs while conceding almost all BPs faced. His first serve was the other trouble as he could not take full advantage of it - and he has a good first serve in general.
However - we got the first win to cheer and now we hope for better performances in Germany!

Grigor received WC for the main draw in Aachen! What's more, it seems that he has really trained at Agassi's academy before the USO. Agassi is quoted to have said "I believe he has the ability to become Nr.1 one day.".

can someone translate that

Quote:
Der bulgarische Jung-Star Grigor Dimitrov erhält eine Wild Card für das Hauptfeld des ATP-Turniers LAMBERTZ OPEN BY STAWAG (25. Oktober bis zum 2. November 2008).

More or less the article states Grigor's success on the junior circuit and the Futures tour this year and the fact that he trained in the Agassi academy before US Open. The tournament in Aachen generally is good for upcoming stars as Djokovic, Davydenko and Del Porto played here and the organizing staff is excited about young players starting their career among the men in Aachen so they welcome Grigor.

I wonder whether any TV or live streaming will broadcast this Challenger?

There is a LIVE VIDEO link on the site (on the right), but it's not working, at least for me. Perhaps they will start broadcasting on monday?

Great, I just saw it. It will be on during the tournament, but it requires QuickTime player and Explorer or Safari browser.
