Can't wait for the French Open, it's my favorite grand slam

Best of luck David...hope he gets over the injury, whatever it is, and gets a great result there, it's been such a long time since he's done well at a slam!!

RG 2006 was the last grand slam that David performed well at. Upto and including that event, he consistently went deep at the slams, but in his last 7 appearances in these events he has reached the QF stage 0 times, and the 4th round only twice.
Hopefully he'll be pain free and good to go when this tournament gets underway.
Out of the 4 grand slams, I have always preferred RG and the Aussie Open to Wimbledon and the US Open.

Hopefully David will be able to produce some stunning tennis at Roland Garros this year.

I'm another natural surface lover, and while clay is easily my favourite surface, I've always preferred grass to hard.
One of the reasons why Wimbledon is down my list of favourite slams, is the snobbery and ignorance of many of the fans who go there. Last year the people behind me were making fun of for continually glancing froms side to side when watching a match (they didn't realise that some people actually attend one of 4 biggest events in the sport to watch the tennis ), and many people hadn't heard of a guy who a grand slam title and reached world no.1, Ferrrero. Also while the grass at Wimbledon did have to be slowed down (it was a 2 part-process in 2001 and 2002 I think), they have gone too far down that road and the surface used there nowadays is an abomination.
I also hated it when the clay at RG was sped up in 1996.
I love the carnival atmosphere that the Aussie Open seems to always generate (and in that department it puts the other 3 slams to shame), and for me that is enough to make up for the surface used.

What did they think, that spectators shouldn't bother looking at what's going on?

I said this on KOC, and I really don't like the slowed down surface at Wimbledon, especially having seen some of the warm-up tournaments in comparison. I would like to see the court speed up to something like Queen's which is not fast at all, but gives the opportunity for grass court specialists to do well there.

I don't have a huge preference for any of the Grand Slams, although last year I warmed to the US Open. Usually I just end up getting drawn to whichever tournament produces good matches and and which attracts good crowds. I think all Grand Slams get good crowds except for Wimbledon. Having watched a lot of the matches on live streaming at Wimbledon last year, the crowd atmosphere at Wimbledon has to be by far the worst. Far too quiet and nowhere near enthusiastic enough. I never realized that the Australian Open had such a carnival atmosphere until recently when I saw coverage of the outside courts. I desperately want to go there (for the first time) next year since I finally have enough money but I'm not sure if I can make that happen in terms of being able to get time off.

In theory, the natural surfaces are more interesting but there seem to be more great matches on the hardcourts. Last year the number of quality matches at the French Open was severely lacking. Hopefully that won't be the case this year.

Television coverage for the French Open is awful and I'm hoping that there will be some good live streaming. I wish all of the Grand Slams would follow Wimbledon and introduce paid live streaming, but three years since Wimbledon started it and the other Grand Slams still haven't followed at least in providing it worldwide.

Here in France it's the Wimbledon's coverage that is awful. The FO is perfectly covered which is to be expected but also AO and USO get great coverage. It's because Eurosport France cover all slams but Wimbledon. To watch it you have to pay...

And like you I can't bear the atmosphere in Wimbledon, and also grass is not my favourite surface.

Coverage is for Wimbledon is good here, but live streaming is better - 9 courts coverage and downloadable matches but the lack of commentary really exposes the poor atmosphere.

Best wishes for David in RG but I don't think it 'll be a very successful tourney for him.He didnt have good results and preparation on clay after Miami. By his current form I think David can't beat these 6 players in RG : 1. Nadal 2. Federer 3. Djokovic 4. Wawrinka 5. Ferrer 6. Almagro. so I hope in draw he doesnt face them until quarterfinals. Also players like Davydenko and Ferrero will be tough ones to beat for David regarding his recent results and his injury.I hope he can find his best form after first 2-3 matches and surprises everyone at the end !

I wonder if he can beat Almagro on clay or wawrinka on ANY surface even in good form, u saw what happened this year against almagro after Nalby won that title, wasnt it a straight sets loss? And last year he beats the top 3 players in the world, then the top 2 AGAIN back to back without dropping a set but he losses badly to wawrinka, Its one thing that really pisses me off about david he doesnt seem to be working to find a way around these tricky opponents... also i think he has a problem on clay against guys who are physically strong because his pace of shot is much weaker on clay cos he cant use his brilliant timing and the surface for power, its more for the guys who generally muscle the ball and those soft angles wouldnt be as brilliant against a "all or nothing" pretender like wawrinka especially on clay since the players have more time to get to the ball and then a strong shot.

Im wondering if anyone agrees that david should skip RG if hes Not absolutley 100% (not even 99%) because wimbledon is the best shot of a GS for him, it should be number 1 priority, his chances at RG are slim to none at the moment and u dont wanna aggrevate an injury there to miss out on WIMBLEDON.

Even now in his current form hes more of a fave for wimbledon, only federer, djokovic, and maybe Roddick and Tsonga (yeah hes outta form so maybe not but he has the game), have a style thats suited to the surface and the mens tour is a joke when it comes to players who are able to play on grass. At his best Nalby is the most intelligent and best suited to the grass so yeh I wouldnt risk Wimbledon if hes not 100%

Default Re: Il est un rock star........David va etre a Roland Garros du 25 mai au 8 juin....

Well, from what I read through the lasts weeks and maybe last months, David didn't keep training as hard as last year so that's why I guess he can't keep the good results. That's just hypothesis of course but if he didn't keep his training, he won't run as fast as he can so that's why he's struggling right now on clay against player who can hit great shot down the line.

But we don't know what is happening right now, he lost in R2 last week and skipped Hamburg so I'm sure he is training hard to prepare RG. Still one week to go and we will see if he is prepared for RG, hoping that he is not injured anymore of course.

But indeed he has a shot on Wimbledon as he made the final here. In fact IMO he has a shot at every slams : he made SF in all of them didn't he ?

Anyway as I said once and I still think the same way, David's form is up to his coach, as David has so much interests outside tennis, Jaite must be here to "force" him training, but I'm no trainer so that's just my opinion.

Don't forget that the slams are best 3 out of 5. That's no small factor. Almagro and Wawrinka have never performed well in slams; their one-handers have a tendency to break down over the course of the longer matches. On the other hand, we all know how Nalby only seems to get stronger in those long matches; he's shown it time and time again, even when he's not playing his best (Remember the Tispsarevic and Grosjean matches in AO '07)
