Default Guillermo Coria, the US Open (and I) suffers without you

I had to trade in my ticket today from a rained out session during last year's opening rounds.

I did not know what day to trade it in for, because Guillermo would not be there. I don't even care if I go.

Tennis is not tennis without the presence of Mago Coria; even if I would miss his opening match in previous years (I didn't miss it, however), at least I would know he was near the grounds, READY to play, and that some kind of magic was going to be circling around the US Open shortly. This year, it is only t-shirt sellers & hotdog vendors.....because precious Guille is not here.

Guille...

hey daze! you couldn't trade your ticket for a different day?? that day's schedule WAS pretty awful >.< who did you end up watching???
I went to US Open yesterday and had a pretty great lineup (for me anyway!) - Safin, Henin, and Henman xP could you have traded tix for this day?
I totally feel like this year's USO schedules are terrible! the first 2 days there was like no one I was interested in! the primary reason I went to USO yesterday was to see Henman (one of my faves) since he's about to retire I lucked out that Safin was also playing (yet another fave!) but I sure do miss Coria :'(

Default Re: Guillermo Coria, the US Open (and I) suffers without you

yes, i went - there was a tennis channel writer there actually who said, 'this is the worst schedule of tennis i can ever remember at a grand slam event.' so that was fun, some comradery of boredom.

lets see...... yes, safin-coria, day 4 was pretty good!!! (day 1 was even pretty good) but these were the dregs.

on a good note: juan mónaco was cccuuuttteeee!!! his orange shirt was mouth watering and i laughed as young BOYS squealed for him to throw them his sweat-drenched white headband. Adorable as he was with his scruffy facial hair, i could not imagine walking around the Open the rest of this day with this dripping sweat-drenched soggy headband, but there ya have it. One boy who DIDN'T get it, screamed, "But I wanted it!! Please!!!!! Let me have it, i really wanted that!!"

other good note: i had an at&t rebate credit card so i didnt actually have to waste any cash on the food & drink replenishment.

only other good note: djokovic was enjoyable, especially as i sat next to a korean couple who seemed DEAD SET against him on every point. the tennis was good but their constant pain was really funny.... though i admired their unwavering determination to stand by their man, who fit in perfectly with the lackluster bozos in the rest of the field.

i DID try to see massu, but the schedule was so weak that his court was flooded to the point where you had to wait on a line of 15 people waiting for someone to leave before anyone could be admitted. If that doesn't tell you the general impression of the spectators regarding the rest of the schedule, nothing would.

bored OUT OF MY MIND from tedium, i left a little after 3, deciding i had wasted enough of my day off already & could salvage some fun before sundown if i VAMOSED!!!!

the night session on TV was better though.

why bring up this thread again NOW???

well, isn't it OBVIOUS?!!

the game will suffer greatly without that crafty dervish, justine henin. But we dont want guillermo to think that "If the #1 player in the WORLD can RETIRE... why not me?"

NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there have always been so many connections in my mind between guille & justine... i just... no. If he leaves now, I will quit watching tennis. Justine & Coria are the only two who make the sport special just by being in it.

and coria hasnt won a match since 2005, and I still think that!

lets say a prayer.
