Mark defeated Groth 76 76. Good win for him. There's still time for him and you would think there is a good chance of him being a late maturer but he can't afford to keep losing in the qualifying of futures like he did at the start of the year even if he did have to face the likes of Parr and Delgado. Has a winnable second round match and hopefully he can make the quarters here.
Mark has spend the last few weeks in the North American continent playing tournaments in Canada, Mexico and the USA. He is playing in a Mexican futures tournament this week where he has won his first round in straight sets, 6-3 6-3. He will most likely play the third seed in the next round which would be a tough one but at least Mark is proving he can do it on his own overseas.
By the way he is only about 3 points away from being ranked inside the top 1000 so I guess he should be able to make it there some time in the not too distant future. The potential with him is massive given his height and strength. Come on Mark show Tennis Australia that you should have gotten some of that funding and not given it all to Bernard.
Before this match he had been on a 6 match losing streak, 3 of which occurred in futures qualifying. Good to see him win a match in the main draw even if it was against an easy player but since his QF in Australia earlier this year he has been super disappointing. Would have been nice to see him last week and take on Santiago Gonzalez but it wasn't to be. People who have seen him play still say he has potential and it is just a question of whether or not his game can click and his style does seem to suggest that he will be a bit of a late bloomer but he can't afford to keep losing in the first round of 64 man futures qualifying draws.
Mark was able to beat the third seed, 5-7 6-0 6-3. Next up is the eighth seed for Mark. One more win and he'll be ranked around the 900 mark and shouldn't have to worry about qualifying much anymore. Come on Mark you can do it.
He came from a set behind to defeat little known Mexican Tigre Hank 57 76(4) 63 in the first round of a 10k future in Celaya (Mexico, Hard). Awaiting him in the second round is a very difficult match against his conqueror from last week and number 1 seed Gallardo-Valles.
