Default Sore hip

Wasn't sure whether to post this in here or in general non-tennis for a broader range of responses. Basically I hurt my hip last Saturday, I don't actually remember the specific moment, it was just after a rally I noticed my hip was a bit sore. I hoped and though that it would heal up in a day or 2 but if anything it's gotten ever so slightly worse.
Anyhow I was due to practice on Monday and play on Wednesday but I decided to rest instead. Now I'm supposed to be practicing tomorrow and then playing on Friday (and coaching on Saturday) and I've got my first ever league match in 2 weeks time so I'd like to be well prepared going into that.

My hip isn't actually in a really bad way, it's just a bit sore and annoying. I Was just wondering if anyone else here has had hip problems and if I should be able to play without ill-effects and furthermore how long should it take for the hip to heal? I know you're not all doctors but any bit of advice would be helpful

Thanks for reading

Go to the doctor mate. Hip problems are way more serious than they seem.

Thanks man . Without wanting to throw a pity-party, more time without tennis sucks

Wink Re: Sore hip

If you can't put your weight on it without pain, don't play. See a doctor. Tennis will always be there.

Nice day to reply, today was my first day back playing since the injury I just took my basket with me and hit forehands and backhands for an hour, I feel a little bit sore now but still much better than a week ago. I'll get plenty more rest and play again at the weekend... the last 3 days have been cool - walking without pain kicks ass

Did you ever make it to the Doc? Was it something more serious than a strain or a sprain?

I have an aching hip these days too...but not for the reason any of ya'll probably do. Never had a issue with it til I had a baby. And she was not c-section. Fortunately, my OB is also a tennis player and had warned me a bit. It rarely hurts while playing...just for hours afterwards. Since I'm pregnant again I can't take any medication, but I used to take an Aleve before playing and another after. That seems to take the edge off.

Glad you were able to hit some and things felt good. Welcome back to The Game.

Yeah I went to the doc who sent me for an x-ray but said that it was probably just muscular and that 4-6 weeks rest should do, the x-ray came back clear. I presume that the ligaments in the hip were strained. I basically missed a little under 2 months.
It's 8 days since I first returned and it does hurt a bit after I practice, but it hurts less every time - today I played and it didn't hurt at all afterwards but then I had to cut the hedge around my garden and after that I was a bit sore.
It has felt great to be back but I've been a bit anxious about about over-working the hip, however I'm very hopeful that I'm out of the woods now (there are 2 tests left - a tough workout/match on the court and a tae-bo workout (which I took up to improve my footwork/fitness). I'm due to play my first match since returning either this Sunday or early next week

While I'll never be able to understand the birth-giving issues, I was told last year to expect back-problems throughout my life.... so we're even then I hope you are going to impart your tennis prowess on the children

indeed. If men only knew....

But sadly, back problems come along with the whole deal too. Try carrying around a 25-lb 2-year old...and a growing belly. Since I only started out at 100-lbs myself (yep, I'm a bean pole)...the extra 40-50lb I'll be toting at the end of my pregnancy represent a significant load (esp as a percent of body weight). What happens to your insides while you're pregnant is all at once weird, painful...and amazing. There's a reason pregnant women...waddle.

I did play competitively until just two weeks ago (6+ mon along) and I can honestly say there were only a few shots that I felt like I should/could have gotten to had I not been in my, ah, condition. But I can't complain with the results. My oh-so-understanding partner and I won 6-0, 6-2 at #1 doubles. Gotta like that. I can only thank my partner, team captain and doctor...for letting me play. Only two weeks gone...and I'm already missing it. *sigh* Thank goodness Wimbldon starts next week and then on to the American hard court season. The USO will finish up just before my due date.

That's a dicey issue with us, I suppose. Hubs and I are hesitant to impart our hobbies on our kids. Certainly, they'll be exposed to it (my lil girl likes to watch tennis in person and on TV ) but we won't be pushing them into it.

But I'd love to play in a mother-daughter tourney at some point. Too bad I'll be a Super Senior by then.

Glad to hear things seem to be progressing for you! Good luck in that upcoming match.
