If Roger was never interested in fighting for power, he'd have never reached the top. Consult Ernests Gulbis for more details on the subject.

I just ran into this nice statement (reading the infinite comments to a S.L. Price article posted on Forty Deuce ) and it made me smile.
Even if I wonder if smiling is a normal reaction to this...

Yea, I don't really think smiling is the right response. lol but I smiled alittle mostly as a reaction to his name but I think the point of the statement wasn't all too nice..
I think I remember seeing that statement before.

I would have smiled too, wryly, that is, for the spot-on use of Ernie as a counterpoint to the argument. We recognize it only too well, that E has top 5-level talent but lacks in fighting spirit or a hunger for domination. Hopefully, he won't remain a footnote like this for long.

Re: Ernests' news thread!
I think I mostly smiled because his name was somehow linked to Federer's. Drawing comparison between the two of them is almost criminal but it is something I've secretly often done.

Re: Ernests' news thread!
Quotes from Ernie's press conference yesterday
http://esports.lv/teniss/latvijas_sp...z_pareiza_cela
He called Niki a second father
Roughly translated, he said that after he split up with Karl, he did some very intensive physical training and that after those drills it is normal for you to lose some coordination and your feel of the ball. He is working his way back, however, and he's convinced that he's on the right track.
He also said that Niki will go to Wimbledon with him! and after that, "we'll see."

Re: Ernests' news thread!
Thanks for the article, Zahirah! Indeed, his footwork today was a vast improvement from before that even the commentators noticed it. His physical training is working! And it's great news that Pilic will continue to travel with him till Wimbly! It's easy to tell that there's a special relationship between them. I hope that all this will bode well for the upcoming tourneys.

This is great news! Hopefully Pilic will be with him at least for the tourneys here, in Europe, it would be so good for Ernie.

That is so sweet and so logical, given their past together. It's more than just a coach - player relationship, good to see them together again.

Re: Ernests' news thread!
How good of Niki to agree to work with Erno at Wimbledon too. I'm encouraged by this news and the fact that Erno spoke to the Latvian press at some length.

only good news lately apparently.
seeing him hug niki and his wife in Munich said it all second father is indeed the best way he could describe it I guess. I'm happy about this collaboration, can only bring good

I'm trying to understand it but the google translator made me again. The thing that caught my eyes was: Along with a knee injury, I have other problems, "said Gulbis, though without specifying what exactly.
I think I feel another stomach ache coming up again E, what's wrong please?

Re: Ernests' news thread!
What I understood is he said losing second set’s tie break caused him to go down mentally, and that is probably the reason why he lost third set. In the 4th one Almagro was coming up, he was more and more confident. Ernests served worse in third and 4th set ( nuu, E,reall?! we were not even aware of that, you know? , editor’s note).
He said he’s not happy with his results here ( Im not sure about this) but it was difficult to do better than last year… The article talks about the fact he is losing points in the rankings, that maybe he will have to play some qualies and maybe some challengers. E said he doesn’t know yet, he has not thought about it yet.
Then the old story about his physical preparation and DC vs Bulgaria.
Last sentence he said he wants to use this week ( which one, boy? It’s Wed today ) to solve his physical troubles (knee and others, which he didn’t specify).
I don’t think there is anything serious to worry about. Maybe his knee bothers him, but not worse than usual… I hope so, at least.
