Cuando no juega, da que hablar por sus dichos polémicos. En plena recuperación de una doble operación que lo tiene fuera de los courts desde marzo, el cordobés acusó al capitán de la Copa Davis, Tito Vázquez, de no aparecer "nunca" a la hora de mediar entre él y Juan Martín del Potro, con quien tiene diferencias desde hace años.

En una entrevista concedida a la agencia de noticias china Xinhua, Nalbandian disparó, en relación a si se puede lograr la unidad entre ambos: "Ese es el trabajo del capitán. Con Tito no hablo del tema, no hablé y, es más, Tito no aparece nunca, solamente la semana de Copa Davis."

Su relación con Delpo. "Lo ideal es que juguemos los dos, más allá de cualquier cosa. Con Juan Martín hablamos, tenemos una relación normal y lo ideal sería compartir el equipo y apuntar los dos para adelante. No sirve que mi objetivo sea una cosa y el de él, otra", agregó David.

En cuanto a Del Potro, dijo esperar que "pueda estar" en la serie de cuartos de final de la Davis ante Kazajistán, del 7 al 9 de julio en Buenos Aires, "porque es un gran jugador" y estar unidos "es lo mejor que le puede pasar a la Argentina".

No obstante, admitió: "Es totalmente entendible y perfecto que cada uno tenga sus prioridades", aunque insistió en su anhelo de que a la hora de jugar Copa Davis estén "los dos siempre".

It is so disappointing and frustrating to see him missing a GS again, and why does he fail to play with good health for a full season, and also either did poorly or was absent from the GS since 2007? He always reached the SF/QF of GS way back in 2003-2006, and now...

But it is a wise decision not to play in Roland Garros. But I think he needs to play 2 grass warm-up tournaments for Wimbledon.

He always struggles with injuries and early stages of tournaments, so we never know how he would perform against Djokovic/Nadal/Federer. It is sad to see him slowly fade away (reminding me of Sabatini - but at least she won 1 Grand Slam!). Will he ever win a Grand Slam? Or should I say if he would reach another QF/SF of a slam again?

I have a feeling that 2012 should be his last chance to win a GS (it should be Wimbledon) - I predict Djokovic would burn out a bit, and Federer and Nadal might be a bit off-peak.

I just dont want to see him injured again and retire quickly. He is sooooo talented!

Nalbandian awarded wild card for 2011 AEGON Championships

The 2002 Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian has been awarded a wild card into the main draw of the AEGON Championships at The Queen’s Club, 6th-12th June.

Nalbandian has suffered with injuries over the past 12 months, but although the French Open will come too soon for him in his comeback, he will be ready to play on grass at The AEGON Championships. The Argentine will compete in a main draw that also features the World No.1 Rafael Nadal, the Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic, the World No.4 Andy Murray, the four-time champion Andy Roddick and the 2009 US Open winner Juan Martin Del Potro.

“I am looking forward to starting my comeback from injury on grass at the AEGON Championships at The Queen’s Club,” said a grateful Nalbandian.

“It has been a frustrating time, but my recovery is going well and I expect to be in good shape for the tournament. I enjoy playing on grass, and reaching the Wimbledon final in 2002 was a special moment in my career. I hope to have a successful grass court season this year.”

Tournament Director Chris Kermode was delighted to welcome him into the singles main draw.

“The AEGON Championships has a tradition of using its wild cards to give opportunities to established players who have had a difficult time with injuries,” he said. “In awarding our first wild card to David Nalbandian we have maintained that tradition, and added an exciting, explosive and entertaining tennis player to our singles main draw.”

The tournament still has four wild cards to award before the tournament gets underway on Monday 6th June.

The AEGON Championships will be broadcast live, every day from 6th-12th June, on BBC Television and Eurosport.

David Nalbandian drops to 24th in ATP rankings

PanARMENIAN.Net - Argentina’s David Nalbandian dropped one position
(1425 points) to find himself 24rd in the men’s tennis rankings released
by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) on June 6, 2011.

Nalbandian has been handed a wildcard for the Aegon Championships
at Queen's Club in June. The Argentine, 29, has missed much of the
season due to injury and will skip the French Open because of a
virus that has caused him to lose weight. The Aegon Championships
takes place between June 6-12.

Rolland Garros 2011 winner Spaniard Rafael Nadal continues to top
the rankings with 12070 points, followed by Novak Djokovic (Serbia,
12025 points) and Roger Federer (Switzerland, 9230 points).
