There's nothing more difficult that to explain exactly why you like a painting (and especially in a foreign language ). I know I love Monet too, though, his use of colour was trully astonishing, so many of his paintings were painted during sunrise because he felt that's when the light was most beautiful and colourful. The most perfect exemple is his magpie , if you look carefully you realize that nothing is just black (it's different shades of blue or brown) even the snow isn't white (it's rose or blue).
Your avi reminds me of Vatican city and the sistine. The Pieta is so mesmerizing.

I love this thread. I would love it if more rennaisance displays were posted. I love Boticelli, Raphael, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Also the Impressionist, Renoir and of course Monet. Who doesn't love Monet. I need to take art history. I am so art illiterate.

Ok since you ask
In order :
The school of Athenes from Raphael
Pope Julius also by Raphael, I spent nearly an hour looking at it at the National Gallery in London, I don't know exactly why but I was mesmerized
Episodes from the book of genesisby Michelangelo, this picture doesn't do it justice, I know every one talks about it all the time, but there are truly no words to describe how beautiful it is. To think it was Michelangelo's first major painting... Sometimes it feels unfair how incredibly gifted he was.
The last judgement still in the Sistine Chapel and still by Michelangelo
La belle ferroničreby Da Vinci, not as famous as the Mona Lisa but I find her just as amazing. It always pisses me off when I see people rushing past her, without so much as a glance, to go see the mona Lisa
Castiglioneyet another one by Raphael, it doesn't look like much at first but it's actually one of Raphael's most brillant work. Castiglione was a friend of his who happened to be a renown diplomat, that's why Raphael decided to paint his clothes only with shades of grey, because no one understood better than him the importance of moderation and compromise.

When I studied abroad in London for a semester there was a course "Masterpieces of London" where we went to a different museum in London every week (or the National Gallery for 5-6 weeks) and she taught us about art So I know London's National Gallery pretty well which is where I spent so much time staring at that Botticelli.

Anyway... Rodin museum!

And okay even the flowers are beautiful!

Cloth Painting is very popular in India.

Here is a little note on it and some examples

Quote:
Developed in the temple region of Andhra Pradesh (Kalahasti), Kalamkari is a traditional painting style with strong line drawings. Paintings are made on cotton fabrics with a kalam i.e. pen, a sharp pointed pierced bamboo that regulates flow of colour on the fabric. Vegetable dyes are mainly used on cloth.

Magritte's work is intriguing, yes.

When he was a teenager, his mother committed suicide. They found her body in a river with her night gown wrapped around her face. Hence those sort of images of people with a cloth covering up their face one would think, but I don't think that Magritte ever acknowledged that in public.

I did go to Paris and D'Orsay. Ha ha ha! But it was with my Uni through a summer abroad program I have the sole picture of me outside D'orsay. The lines for the Louvre were ridiculous, you got there at 7:45am and still the line would be like 2-3hrs long.

When did you go ?
I remember waiting a lot when I was a kid but never more than 10 or 15 minutes the last few years. There are a few more people during the summer with all the tourists though
