No. I think Federer's decline is a fact and he's not winning any major in the future. 38 17.35%

I guess you're right. Old habit, I suppose. Still - nothing wrong with a No. 2 player struggling on his worst surface. Thomas Muster was No. 1 or 2 occasionally during the 90s, and his skills on grass would not compare favourably to Nadal 1st week....

MTF Logic at full force.
Good point, however, Roger is an exceptional tennis player due to his basic health and game style. I believe he just turned 31, which is not ancient, even in the tennis world. Also, Roger always had a superior grass court game to anyone since Sampras, and perhaps even Sampras too. Therefore, it is not shocking that Roger is still capable of winning Wimbledon. I do think that the French and USO will be tougher for him. Roger winning Wibledon is similar to Nadal winning on clay. Not as much of a sure thing, but close. Nadal and Novak are great players, but never were great grass court players.

Let's see if Nadal can even win FO or Djoker to win AO and become world's #1 when they're 31.

I doubt that they will. Their game is more effortfull and less efficient than Roger's. They probably will be out of the game by 31. Time will tell.

Imagine if he was 25-26 now, he'd absolutely rip this field to smithereens.

He was born 08/08-81, an easy date as your American system (month first) and our European system (day first) produce the same result. He will be 31 in another four weeks.

The poll is biased -- implying that OLDerer winning a slam means that he has not declined. Federer has declined -- FACT -- no need for elabloration, any rational tennis fan who has followed Federer over the years can attest to this. Winning a major at 31 is merely a testament to his greatness, that despite declining he is still good enough to be able to compete with players 5+ years younger than himself.

People shouldn't take Sampras's words at face value -- don't know what he was trying to imply here, perhaps he was trying to quell doubts about Federer's motivation, or perhaps he was trying to denigrate what Federer achieved in his prime -- I'll give him the benefit of the doubt however. However, it is rather ironic. Remember Sampras is a player who in 2002 argued that he had not declined and was playing the best tennis of his career . One's success is related to the degree of confidence one has -- if a player starts admitting to themselves that they are not as formidable as they used to be, it can be detrimental to their confidence. Self-belief is a HUGE and PIVOTAL factor in success at this level.

Federer probably has declined a bit, but Nadal and Novak have dramatically imporoved since 07.
