Golf is a much less physcially demanding sport. also in golf there aren't as many up and comers to take your spot. I mean when was the last time you heard of a young gold prodigy to challenge Tiger Woods?

This is perfectly normal. 26/27 is the age when all great players begin to see their results suffer. Look back over the last 30 years. Sampras, Borg, Edberg, Becker, McEnroe, Wilander... All of these players saw their results dwindle or disappear after this age. Agassi, Lendl, and Connors are the only ones to win multiple slams in a season after this age. Whether it's father time or the next generation coming up, it's a normal occurence. I don't think it damages Fed's legacy that his results are slowing at this age.

Decline? what decline. Federer has reached 5 slam finals in a row, the last time I checked reaching a major final was considered a great achievement.

I don't think he is in the decine as yet. He is still reaching the finals of the slams (I could be wrong but isn't Sunday his fourth straight appearance in the FO final, his worst surface?)and winning. He is not as unbeatable as before but that is expected as he ages and his opponents, who are younger improve as well.
BTW, will you still feel this way when he wins on Sunday?

Really guys, he's simply getting older and a bit slower.
It happens, there's nothing to be said, his mental and physical state has decline. His consistency has dipped, his serve has lost edge and his movement is a tad slower.
That said 20 sem-finals in a row.
Almost everyone in the draw would still want to be Federer even at his age...

FYI, I was being facetious.
Bring up this thread again after Federer's lost in the early rounds of at least a couple of Slams, and fallen out of the top 5. As it stands, everyone except Nadal (and maybe him too, recent events considering) would want to be Federer. |

When you are on top, you'll have bull's eye on your back. People improve. It's just sports. Fed is still making all those 20 semis so he is not doing too bad. And if Nadal retires soon, Fed can go back to No. 1. No?
