Good that we won't have to see this boring mug again in 2008.

Then Tsonga making the final, beating Davydenko, let's say, and he and Blake would make it.

I didn't check this scenario, but someone can do it for me.

Does it count for the race, though?

I'm not sure, I was just speculating.

I'm not the one who was complaining that Simon didn't make it because of this person or that.
It wasn't my "amazing logic" and reasoning to begin with. Simply borrowed it from some of the posters on this thread.

It wouldn't be surprising if Simon makes it through other means.

Well considering Nalbandian and Roddick have both suggested that they wont go and Nadal and Fed have simultaneously co-ordinated injuries, Simon might still have a chance now

I hope this doesn't turn into a withdrawal fest like the 2005 event.

Okay, the Race to Shanghai 2008 will go down to the final match...who'd have thought it?!!!

Fat Dave has beaten Davydenko, to advance to the final, bumping his points total up to 345.

The scenarios now:

Blake beats Tsonga = Blake guaranteed to qualify for TMC.

Blake WINS the final = Blake #6 for TMC; Simon is #1 alternate; (Nalbandian #2 alternate); Ferrer #3 alternate.
Blake LOSES the final = Blake #7 for TMC; (Nalbandian qualifies by right, at #8); Del Potro is #1 alternate; Simon #2 alternate; Ferrer #3 alternate.

Tsonga beats Blake = preliminary #8 for TMC.

Tsonga WINS the final = Tsonga #7 for TMC; Simon is #1 alternate; Blake #2 alternate; (Nalbandian #3 alternate).
Tsonga LOSES the final = Tsonga DOES NOT qualify - #9; (Nalbandian qualifies by right, at #7); Tsonga is #1 alternate; Simon #2 alternate; Blake #3 alternate.

Tsonga is killing Blake at the moment, it's likely Sunday will be a winner-takes-all scenario.

JMDP has now qualified for TMC, Blake is out. Last spot to be decided in tomorrow's final.

Okay, Tsonga has just beaten Blake, meaning Del Potro is now the 7th qualifier for TMC, and this is relevant for tomorrow's "winner takes all" match:

Tsonga WINS the final = Tsonga #7 for TMC; Simon is #1 alternate; Blake #2 alternate; (Nalbandian #3 alternate).
Tsonga LOSES the final = Tsonga DOES NOT qualify - #9; (Nalbandian qualifies by right, at #7); Tsonga is #1 alternate; Simon #2 alternate; Blake #3 alternate.

Either way, it looks good for Jo (#8, for tonight), now...even if he doesn't win tomorrow, if Dave keeps his word (that he isn't going to Shanghai), Jo is first in line to take his place.

How exciting for it to come down to the last regular season match!!! Too bad if it is true that nalbandian might not play though, b/c then Tsonga gets to go no matter what and Simon is then the #1 alternate no matter what.
