Re: Spring hardcourt season 2008
Yep, they say in L'Equipe today he changed his mind and decided to "practice twice as hard" for Miami.
Alors que son intention première était de disputer le tournoi Challenger de Sunrise, qui se déroule cette semaine, Gaël MONFILS a finalement décidé de mettre les bouchées doubles à l’entraînement avant de s’aligner à Miami…

Oh well, hopefully he does, and gets a good draw in Miami.

Re: Spring hardcourt season 2008
They were showing Champion all the time yesterday during Mahut's match, so maybe Champion is working with Mahut too at the moment and that's the reason why they decided to stay in IW longer?
I don't get what they're doing in the Team Lagardère, they're playing musical chairs again, Mahut's coach is in Indian Wells since he was watching PHM...

Re: Spring hardcourt season 2008
Hey everyone!! Its been a while, but I wanted to check on the news. I agree with both of you, Gael should have at least qualified for Sunrise, but I guess if didn't get a WC then he wasn't going to chance the opportunity to get hurt. Oh well, hopefully Miami draw will be a bit kinder.

Re: Spring hardcourt season 2008
I hope so too, at least we would see him on TV!
I was taking a look at the pics posted on TT and I saw that:
http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=187806
Somebody says he was looking disinterested in training in Indian Wells and not paying attention to what Champion tells him, while he says the opposite in interviews...

Re: Spring hardcourt season 2008
Yay Gael won 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 over Isner!
Good fighting that's what I like to see.

Re: Spring hardcourt season 2008
The next one will be a real test. I remember well their encounter in Doha 2006, Roger won in two, but the match was much closer than the result.

Hey Truc, that was my post over at Tennis Warehouse. This was a huge win for Gael! What I saw was only one practice session. Obviously he was off that night, his match against Ancic was not impressive but all credit should be given to Ancic for his recent return to form. Hopefully he is getting much more out of Champion than I saw, which I think may be the case for now.

Re: Spring hardcourt season 2008
Oh, I hope you don't mind I posted that here, I found the thread interesting. He keeps stressing in interviews he's practicing soooo hard atm, but apparently he's still his usual self!
I also could totally imagine Champion telling him "Gaël... Gaël... Gaël..." when I read your post. I'm still not too sure about his choice to come back to Champion, I much preferred how he was playing with Benhabiles, but I have to say I was amazed by Champion's patience when I saw him in Hamburg and I guess that's essential to coach Gaël Monfils.
As for the "pumped attitude", it looks like it was back yesterday, judging by the few pics of the match!
