Default Training for the upcoming season

I'm 16, I play high school tennis and am beginning to get back into shape and work out in preparation for the season. I'm basically asking for some good exercise for me to do to get back into shape. I've been doing the basic push ups, crunches, sit-ups, running, cycling. I've gained about 15lbs. since the end of last season and I'm trying to work it back off. I was about 6'1", 185lbs. and now I'm about 6'2", 200lbs. My stomach was almost completely flat and it most certainly isn't now, lol. Any suggestions for both getting back into shape and good exercises to improve on the court would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
m0nk3ys1ms

BTW, I'd say I'm a 3.0-3.5 level player.

I read the book "Winning Ugly" and brad Gilbert said that sprints are better than distance running because points in tennis are so short there is no real need to have a ton of stamina (unless you go to a 3rd set)so just work more on agility. Also just going and hiting 100-150 serves in a session to build up your shoulder strenghth/stamina without having soreness after

for trying to get yourself into even better shape.

I'm also a ~3.5 player and really got a lot out of the Paul Annacone Tactical Tennis series. Here's a link (http://www.tennis.com/yourgame/instr...nis/index.aspx) but I was able to check them out of my local library for 2 weeks at a time (free!). The DVDs go through drills as well as fitness elements...and they're specific to tennis.

Rather than buy them...check out your library and/or ask your school's coach. You might even find/make a connection at a local club.

Good luck.

Truthfully, if your issue is dropping the weight. Start eating less/better.

If you have ever figured out the amount of miles you would need to run to burn off 15 pounds while keeping the same diet habbits, you would realize its impossible.

If you want to train for tennis, thats a different story.

I have changed my eating habits a bit. I've been staying away from junk foods and sodas and have been eating less, as well as drinking a lot of water. I figure if I keep my eating and exercise habits up, I should be in good shape come August. Thanks for the tips Dunlop, and I'll check out those DVD's Queen.

Thanks again,
