Default US Open 2014

Marin's section of the draw in the 2014 US Open:

R1: Baghdatis
R2: Qualifier
R3: Anderson/Janowicz
R4/R16: Ferrer

Won't write further just yet, but gotta say i like the draw. Hope he can find his serve and get to Ferrer where he will have his chances for sure on this surface...

I agree, good draw. Berdych/Gulbis as potential QF opponent is not bad either.

He couldn't have easier draw. No Fed, no Djoker, no Wawrinka (GS champion, beated him both time this year), no Murray, no Nadal, no Nishikori 'till semis/final. He could face Anderson (4:1 H2H) or Janowitcz (1:1) in R3, Ferrer (Ferrer leads 3:1 but last they played was in 2010 and Marin won maiden match at GS) in R4, Berdych (3:3 in last 6 matches, 2:1 in last 3, Marin beated him in last one at Wimbledon) or Gulbis (2:1) in QF. He would potentially play either Federer or Dimitrov (1:0) in quaters.
But as first he needs to beat Baghdatis who can be very tough.
However, I don't believe he will make quaters. But he can prove me wrong, we will see.

He has to make R4 with this draw. I don't think he'd beat Ferrer, but on a good day it could happen. I actually like his chances in QF more than in R4.

Agreed. Kinda similar situation to R1/R2 where R1 is quite tricky, while R2 should be easier.

Yes, Cilic will lose vs player ranked just 11 places better than him while Borna will win vs player ranked 160 places better than him. I see you are very excited about Borna, hyping alot, while Cilic disappointed you.
As a matter of fact Rosol is playing final this week and he is #30, while Borna is 17 y old qualifier. On the other hand you have a guy who lost vs GS champions on last 2 tournaments. In both mathces he was close to win (in first one he was 5 points from win while in thw 2nd one he started supperior in first set but dropped his level). Ferrer isn't a GS champion.
Off-course Borna can win cause he already beat such a player in best-of-five plus played one another great match vs top 15 player.

PS And be a man and admite "I am trying to steal your nick (Born-a Champion)".

Comparing rankings like that is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I've seen on this forum. So, by your logic Djokovic would have a harder time beating Youzhny because he's only 22 places better ranked, than Rosol beating Borna.
And don't try to act like a psychiatrist, you're very far from one. No, Cilic didn't disappoint me, but yes his chances of beating Ferrer are for me slimmer than Borna's chances of beating Rosol.

Be a man, seriously? No one denies you came up with that nickname, but what do you want, a medal for it? Grow up already.

Off-course I don't compare by that but didn't I mention he was very close to win vs GS champions on last 2 tournaments while Ferrer isn't GS champion.
Ferrer isn't Djokovic and Cilic isn't Youzhny. Cilic is on 3:1 vs players ranked between 5th and 10th spot in this season. So, he is very close to Ferrer. Youzhny is nowhere close to Djokovic.
It's a very doubtful logic that Borna (#195) has such a great chance for R3 like you try to say while his opponent in frist round is top 30 and playing final this week while Cilic will surely loose like you said.

It's nice you finally admite.

Youzhny was just an example, obviously. Meaning you can't reason things like this just by comparing players' rankings.
Anyway, it's pointless discussing this now, because Cilic-Ferrer could only happen in R4 and that's far away at the moment. The thing is, Marin struggles against players like Ferrer because they make him play that one extra shot that so often ends up being an unforced error. Another thing is, David is usually more vulnerable in early rounds. Once he gets himself going, later in the tournament, he's really hard to beat. Of course Marin could still beat him and it wouldn't be a huge miracle, but no doubt Ferrer will be a big favorite to win it if the match happens.

Coric-Rosol is a completely different match and thus hard to compare. Borna is an up-and-comer who undoubtedly has a much bigger potential than Rosol and will achieve more. Yes, it might still be too early, but Rosol is not unbeatable and Borna proved already he's a big match player. By the way, did you know that Rosol, being 29, never won a USO main draw match? And yes, he's about to enter top 30 and yes he'll play in Winston-Salem final today. But his ranking is mainly caused by his clay court results, and he was pretty lucky in his run this week. Harrison was forced to retire while leading against him, Andujar breadsticked him and Isner gave him a walkover. He beat Lu in a very tight match, but judging by comments Lu was the better player.
Borna beat Janowicz in five sets this year, and Rosol is a similar player. So yeah, I could definitely see him beat Rosol - and reach R3 because R2 would be an easier match than R1 for Borna.
What's important for you to understand in order to not attack me later, I am NOT saying that Borna will 100% sure beat Rosol. Of course Rosol is the favorite, and rightfully so. But I do see a decent chance for Borna in that match, and I really hope he takes it.

This Marin has upper hand in match vs Ferrer. He won't be affraid like he was vs Federer and Djokovic. Even Wawrinka became big name (AO & MC champion) so he got affraid.
Off-course, it's question will that match happen.

Only one hr-ish spent on the court before Baghdatis had to retire at 6:3, 3:1 for Marin. In next round he will play one of the two qualifiers.

In R3 it should be either Janowicz (H2H 1:1, Marin won this year in DC) or Anderson (H2H 4:1, Marin won this year in final of Delray Beach).

Looks quite promising at the moment.

Next up Simon, that's going to be very tough as it's a very bad matchup (H2H 0:4). They played in AO this year with Simon winning 3:2...

Key for me will be Marin's serve... he can't allow to get broken 10 times in a match like in AO or he will loose. I'm confident he can easily break Simon 5+ times in a match so that shouldn't be a problem.
