Exactly. They're both too fast. Personally, I agree with the thread owner that there needs to be more surface variety. I wouldn't mind wood or carpet tennis courts for tournaments.

but that still doesnt answer my question, I want a legimate answer why the atp tour would not consider the surface. I honestly think its a legimate surface. what would be wrong with it? seriously, the balls would bounce fine on it and the players can run on it. I mean its not like they are running over rocks or swamps.

I want convincing set of pros and cons why wooden courts would be considered or not. there must be a reason why its not on the atp tour? what? its too fast for the players? too physically demanding on the knees? too fast for the spectators? or for tv?

this is a question that beckons me.

It's pretty slippery I hear. Probably too fast. Hard to maintain maybe? Favors serve and volleyers WAY too much. It would hurt like a b*tch to fall on it. ...and that's all I can think of lol

I disagree on the maintenance part, how hard could it be to maintain a wooden court surface assuming its held indoors. I can't imagine a wooden court surface tournament be held outdoors but only indoors would work.

It's probably not as easy as you'd think. You can just lay out some wood and play tennis on it. It needs wax or some other material to "perfect" it for a match i bet. That's just a guess though. BTW....http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=117122

I'd probably prefer Wood to Blue Clay.

Karlovic vs. Isner or Raonic on wood, straight to the tiebreakers. It's very slippery, low bounce and skidding so of course the ATP in surface homogenisation want a wooden court

Add low bounce to blue clay and there you go, wood court.

That´s one of the reasons i want the blue clay so stay as it is. It´s a really weird surface and it made the top guns lose, so that´s a plus. And it also made for some really awesomes matches.

Blue clay doesn't skid and bounce on blue clay is a lot higher than wood.

Same in basketball, they run even faster and jump lot higher, but they play on wood, dont they ? And there are 10 men sweating all over the place in b-ball and only 2 in tennis .How much can 2 men sweat ?

If there is wet spot from sweat , it has to be dried, thats all.Thats why ballkids with big court towels were invented.

I would love to see some wood tournament, maybe 250 or
challenger. Guys serving bombs and ball staying on the height of your shoelaces - it is all good !

You could argue that wooden courts are the truest to the spirit of tennis, since the original game, real tennis, was (and is) played on indoor wooden courts. It would be great to see them back. I believe most of the big tournaments and series in the professional game during the 1950s & '60s were played on wood.
