Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
Karanusic can't complain. He couldn't have done much better for the 1st round of a GS event. Sweeting is ranked 276. Of the 16 qualifiers, only two are ranked lower than him and that's because they're coming back from injuries (Zib and Minar).
Sweeting's best results (by far) this year are 2nd round in Miami and two challenger QFs. He has lost six of his last eight matches. Last year he lost in the first round of the US Open.
This is an excellent opportunity for Roko. C'mon, Roko, don't disappoint. You can do it!!!

Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
Yes, you're right
I somehow thought he's a bit better than that.

Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
Maybe only a bit worrying thing could be that Sweeting relatively easily qualified beating solid players like Amritraj, Pless and Kim. Hopefully it will stop with Roko.

Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
Roko plays tomorrow, first match on a side court. My concern is that Sweeting, as a qualifier, is coming in having played three matches on the grounds over the past week; he'll be more match-ready and much more familiar and comfortable with the surroundings. Roko should win based on rank and recent results but as we know, match results are never guaranteed.
Good luck, Roko. Win this one match and you'll very likely move into the top 90 for the first time!

Good luck Roko. A brit here. got money on you. Cilic is my fave player always got a soft spot for Croatia since France '98. You can beat this guy. His record quite poor.

Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
Excellent win for Roko, 75 75 36 62. It's only his third singles MD win in a GS event (also Wimbledon '06 and '08). With it, he'll move to a new career-high rank of around 90.
In the 2nd round he plays Nishikori (#126). It'll be a tough match but Roko can't complain. There aren't many lower-ranked players in the 2nd round of a major (Nishikori was the very last person to make it into the MD directly). In any event, it's better than having to play Monaco (#29 seed), who lost to Nishikori today.
This is a good chance for Roko to reach the 3rd round of a major for the first time in his career. Go for it, Roko, and good luck!

Well done Roko. Another player to add to my list of faves, you did a great job there. You can beat Nishikori. Pressure will be on and experience needs to show through.

Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
 Well done Roko
As I said before the tournament, I think he can get to 3rd round, but Nishikori played well against Monaco. He had a slight injury in the middle of the 4th set, so maybe there's a chance for Roko

Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
Brendan Evans?? Wow. Is Roko hurt or what? I'm surprised to see Brendan playing an ATP level event. I thought he was a career Challenger player.

Re: Roko Karanusic cheering thread
In the latest rankings (January 5, 2009), Roko has moved up two spots, to #89. That's a career-high ranking for him and first time ever in top 90. Very auspicious start to the new year for Roko. Best of luck to him in 2009.

Boy, did I ever jinx Roko! He dropped in the rankings from 96 at the end of 2008 to 189 (end of 2009) then to 424 (end of 2010).
But now he's having a mini-resurgence. Last week he was runner-up at a $15K in India. He beat the #3 and #2 seeds in straights, then lost to Yuki Bhambri, a local player and world #1 junior in 2009.
This week he was runner-up at another $15K in India. He beat the #8 seed by the strange score of 60 36 60 and in the final lost to the top seed, Adam Kellner.
