Is far easier than winning 2 matches in this tournament let me tell you that.
Actually, it's impossible to get that many from winning a challenger now. Lu won last year, and since the points system changed entirely, they doubled the points from old tournaments. Winning the same tournament again would cause Lu to lose 75 points. Thanks, crazy ATP system Plus, the next HC tournament that offers the top points level isn't 'till October.

Frankly, challenger play seems like it could be a good idea in theory, but given Frank's atrocious Challenger record this year (0-5, losses to Delgado, Niland, Im, Fischer and Dimitrov), I'd rather he stay with what he's doing, at least until the USO. Staying on the USTA challenger circuit might be better than trying the Asian ATP swing, though, depending on where his ranking ends up.

As for Washington, Haas will be tough, but hopefully Frank can step it up on the big stage

The 180 points are only because last years ranking points were doubled. That level challenger this year would earn 100 for a win and only 35 for a semi plus I don't think Frank would travel to Uzbekistan for a challenger. After the US Open Frank will probably play some american challengers unless he does well during the summer so his ranking is high enough to enter some asian and indoor hard ATP Tour events.

A lot of talk about Frank playing challangers, should or shouldn't? Frank himself does not want to play challengers as he
fells so much more confident when he is playing with the big boys with 30,000 fans in the stands. Not thru lack of effort,
he finds it difficult to get up for a match in some lonely town with little hype. Are we not all the same way, play a round
of golf with three hacks and you yourself play terrible, but play with great competition and your own game is far better.
Just human nature.
Anyway lets take out Haas and continue the good play.

Great, thanks for posting.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the fall. Obviously playing all those Challengers last year didn't go particularly well. But that fall ATP swing through Asia and Europe is tough, and I'm sure an expensive trip to make. Even in 2007 when he was at his peak he went 3-5 playing in the main draws at Bangkok, Tokyo, Stockholm and Basel, and in the qualifying at the TMS Madrid. Chances are his ranking won't be high enough to get into as many main draws this year as back then, so it would definitely be a gamble.

But I certainly can't blame him for not wanting to go to places like Tulsa and Knoxville.

PS you just have to add the "code" tags when trying to post a chart like that.

106 sounds right, interesting that the guys from 100 to 105 have lots of pionts to loose
copmpared to Frank's 46 point he will loose by 9/14/2009.
By 9/21/2009 Moya looses 240 pts
Kim 110 pts
Nishikori 300 pts
Gulbis 70 pts
Ramirez 190 pts
Looks pretty good

I haven't seen one; from what I've read, there's no streaming coverage until the end of the week
