Frank plays Santiago Giraldo (rank 127) in his first round match. The guy got through qualifying by beating an American wildcard and when an opponent retired after they split sets. Couldn't have asked for a better first round opponent, let's hope he takes advantage.
This is nice from Frank. A game he was billed as big favourite for and after a win here he should hopefully be right on the outside of the top 100. Around 104-105 i think.
If he manages either a win in the next round or in the rogers he will make his way into the top 100.
I think its interesting for Frank that if he can take out Haas in the next round he would face either Robredo of Ferrero i think, I really would fancie him to win either of those matches on a hard court to be honest. Robredo has been out of sorts lately and Ferrero is past his best.
If he managed to somehow get into the QF or SF he would solidify a top 100 place for a long time to come. It just needs Frank to grab it by the scruff of the neck and get deep into this top 100.
6-4 6-3 nice win from Frano no tiebreaks as there normally are so thats good news fairly stright forward match.
On to Haas will be a huge test for him.
If we can take out Haas matches against Ferrero or Robredo then Gonzalez or Andreev would be next. In all honesty I think Frank could beat any of them 4. I remember him taking Gonzalez to 3 sets a few years ago, he beat Andreev recently and I think Juan Carlos and Tommy would be winable matches.
That would take him to the semis and 180 ranking points!!!
(im not getting carried away or anything!) haha
On another note and slightly off topic, I was checking rankings and Yen Tsun Lu managed to get 180 points from winning the Tashkent challenger!?!?!?! Thats crazy, there were few top 100 players in the tournamet, its a shame Frank cant enter a few of these on hardcourts, just getting to a semi would be about 60 points and as a seed he would most likely play two/three very winnable matches to get there. Is far easier than winning 2 matches in this tournament let me tell you that.
