He got Kubot (ranked 94) in round 1, then Querrey in round 2, and then Milos should they both make round 3.

Another disappointing loss for Frank.

Won a tight first set 64, before a breakfest in the second which ended with him broken to love. Went up 20* in the first, but ended up losing it 63.

I'd say his chances are good.

Over Vasek? Just about Nil since Vasek seems to be back in form enough that he has to be the doubles guy with Nestor
Over Jesse? I'd pick Dancy because he has the most upside ... if everyone plays to potential, our #2 probably loses vast majority of the time against almost any top team's #1. But Franks seems to play out-of-this-world (eg. against Spain) or loses-when-he-should win.

So, my vote (I know I don't get one :-) ):

Milos vs Italian #2
Dancy vs Italian #1 (and hope good Franks shows up ... if yes, we are in the semis ... if not, nothing lost ... and you don't want to put Vasek up potentially 3 days in a row)
Nestor/Vasek doubles
Milos vs Italian #1

and then if required:
probably Vasek vs. Italian #2 ... not sure I'd want to put the pressure on Dancy here.

So, even though Jesse is highest ranked, I think he's the odd man out.

I agree.

I was starting to think, with Vasek up 6-1 in his first set tie break against De Voest, that maybe he should be picked for No. 2 singles, but then he promptly went and blew the set, then lost the match, against a guy he should clearly beat. I'd picked Jesse, where Frank had already lost his first round match in Miami, had Jesse won his first round match, but he, after taking the first set, went on to lose.

All three guys have about the same form now, and like was said, Frank has the best potential to play out of his skin.

Do you think that Pospisil's record against Seppi will be a factor? I could see that being a factor.

isnt it just 1-1? Even still your point is valid, he's proven he can beat him

It probably will factor in

Unfortunately it probably will be milos/vasek in singles and daniel+vasek in doubles and then frank will have to hope he gets into a singles match somehow.

If it was down to me id have frank and milos in the singles and daniel+vasek in doubles

I know vasek has made a final but we also have to keep in mind the level of competition he's come acrss and then what happened in that final. He'll be playing much tougher in the davis cup..maybe the fact that frank has been playing against that level of player a bit longer will help him

I'd like to see Frank play R1 or R2 singles against Fognini and then Vasek, with a win of Seppi, play R4 or R5 singles against Seppi. To get this match-up, Marty would need to name Frank No. 1 singles, wouldn't he, then change the line-up Sunday morning. I say this too because Frank can be really good when fired up, but can capitulate under too much pressure, as playing in the last day of singles would cause. Vasek, however, showed in Israel and Ecuador that he can thrive under similar pressure.

Not sure we want to do that. There might be some situations where you want to flip you #1 and #2 guy, but because Sunday always starts with #1 vs. #1, you risk having your #1 guy (ie. Milos in our case) not being able to play in a do-or-die fourth match. Objectively there might not be much difference (if you have to win 2 on Sunday anyways), but I really don't think we want to risk taking the racquet completely out of Milos's hands.

And wins it convincingly 6-3, 6-2 over a pretty good opponent. Franks needs a run of good luck & good playing ... with a ranking in the low 200's, needs quite a bit to get back where he should be (ie. top 100).
