Thomaz advanced to QF with 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Levy. Next Baghdatis or Berdych, either of them isn't easy for him, but at least we may see him play on the screen. There still remains several condenters, so it's not that clear though, just one more win might give him the 32th seed.
crucial match for him, if he wins it, he'll be sth. between 32 and 34 in the world (depending on how deep Karlovic and Tipsarevic go in their tournaments) and have a good chance to be seeded in Melbourne
Both played great, jaw-dropping rallies here and there. (You shoud catch the point at 5:5 40-40 in the 3rd set! ) Unfortunately he messed it up with DF on a crucial moment though, I have to be happy with his performance today. Quite promising and actually much better than I expected, especially in serve and net play part which seems to be improving.
Only got to see the end of the second and the third but he played great. That point you mentioned was excellent, he looked out of the rally after Berdych's backhand but he somehow stayed in it and the finished it off with a terrific dropshot. The double fault at 2-2 in the TB was a huge shame and it all went downhill from there in the Tiebreak. If there was a flaw in his game it was his forehand putaway on the short ball which caused him a little bit of trouble.
If he can keep that up he will do very well in Auckland.
Auckland round 1 vs. Chiudinelli, then Kohlschreiber or Nalbandian
but somehow I feel he'll lose to Chiudinelli
I had the same feeling like you and happily Thomaz proved us wrong.
With great serving, his forehand was superb today. I can't remember how many FHDTL winners were coming from that wing. Moreover concentrating throughout the match, he didn't lose any his game.
R2: Kohlschreiber or Nalbandian
Just give it your best shot, then we'll see how it goes.
