Actually, starting with the QF against Monfils in Washington (which he lost in straight sets), it's been only straight sets (wins or losses) in Toronto, Cincinatti, Us Open, Moscow, Madrid, and even St Anton and now Kooyong...and we are saying he's not consistent

Me too, except that I woke up at around 5 am and thought it must be over by then so I waited until later to go check the score.

I like how you're thinking

I can't even imagine how horrible it must be sitting in 40 degree weather, let alone play 2 sets.

Good observation

of course he didn't play at his best...he's afraid of the Kooyong Curse, ya know? winning Kooyong = no chance of winning the AO!!! What positive thoughts I have tonight hey, will he play another match at Kooyong? or that was it?

Francis, the Russian commentators said he should play vs Ljubicic (as I also understood from the initial 'group') but nope, he's not playing today i.e. on Friday.
All of a sudden Davy plays Ljubicic.
There will be 2 more matches on Saturday but I doubt he'll play. And the presser sounded like he only got 2 matches. With all the withdrawals it's too complicated for me this year.

I understood from the Australian press that the Marat/Roddick match was a 'semi final', as is the Baghdatis/Gonzalez match being played tonight (GMT)/tomorrow am (Australian time). Before the final is played on Saturday which will be between Roddick and either Baghdatis or Gonzalez, there is another match to be played to decide on the 3rd and 4th positions - THEREFORE, in theory this should be a match between Safin and either Baghdatis or Gonzalez. Clear as a bell??

I thought I'd heard he was going to be playing another match but they seem to keep changing the schedules around. It looks like he might be playing the loser of the Baghdatis/Gonzalez match from information here though.

Thats what I thought but it's not on the official website. I'm still confused!

Yes, a match for 3rd/4th place.

The draw for AO is being done at the moment - I think Marat is to play Gulbis. Yikes. I saw Gulbis take out Henman at the French Open last May and he can be very very impressive. Still, no match is going to be easy so no point worrying about it now!

second round (if he passes gulbis, but am optimist this time ) is either baggy or thomas johansson.

he is in djoko's quarter - do not know when they can meet; also in this quarter nalby (?), hewitt, becker.

he won't meet Fed till the semis.

Marat's draw.... Baghdatis in second round.. OK... Do-able... Hewitt in round 3... OK... Do-able.

If he's playing.
Otherwise there's no point to even get frustrated.

Marat's draw is: Gulbis, then Baghdatis, then Hewitt, then Djokovic, then Ferrer, then Federer, then the final...

I'd say Nalby after Djoker...I trust Nalby to down Pics...I agree with the rest

and here's a link to the draw, for those who think they need to know more than the excellent prediction above (and no, this is not the denial thread)
